Melissa’s POV
He cast a dispassionate glance in my direction before turning on his heel and leaving without a backward glance.
I watched his broad back muscles and couldn’t help but swallow hard.
Only after they had departed did Phoebe and Kala exhale in relief.
“What did that guy mean?”
Phoebe appeared somewhat shaken.
I shook my head; this was also my own confusion.
But nothing was more important than Mignon; I seriously relayed her situation to them.
Since they had never given birth, they couldn’t fully understand my sudden surge of maternal instinct.
Out of concern for my safety, they decided to follow me anyway.
Upon returning to the room, we found no trace of her.
Kala couldn’t help but reach out to touch my forehead.
“Melissa, perhaps your stress is too great, leading to hallucinations.”
I tapped my forehead, and the sound of Mignon’s voice seemed still lingering in my ears.
Phoebe took my hand and led me toward the bed, thinking that I was still grieving over Elliott and Aaron, which had caused me to imagine the little girl for comfort.
Just as I turned off the light, the sound of military boots échoed at the door.
“Alpha actually chose a secondhand?”
The man’s voice boomed like a loudspeaker.
Basil nodded with a smile.
“That woman is even foolishly provoking him.”
Their conversation was surprisingly casual, and I realized the other man must be Martell.
“Is she from Rock City or just a crazy woman from Nandonpu?”
Martell lamented missing out on such a spectacle.

The door was kicked open, and Martell’s cold voice followed.
“I know you don’t like these, so I chose that one.
He pointed at Kala, appearing quite intrigued by her.
I despised the smug demeanor of the northern men; to them, women seemed to be mere bargaining chips, devoid of any respect.
After his selection, Basil summoned two maids, gesturing for them to take us away.
Unexpectedly, there was no trace of fear on our faces.
Martell reached out to stroke Kala’s cheek.
“This makes me feel like I made the wrong choice. I hope you’re not just a dull–witted
woman.”
“What do you think we have left to lose? Going back won’t make things any better,” Kala replied, clearly unimpressed by such foolish questions. She was grateful to the moon. goddess just for surviving.
To me, Sebastian Agrigent was an enigma.
Fate had thrust me into this situation, and I was determined to forge a new destiny from it.
The maids led us into separate rooms, and as I stepped into the spacious bathroom, the scent of lilies filled the air.
By the time I emerged from the bathroom, Kala had already dried her hair and was enjoying a moment of bliss with her eyes closed.
“I feel much happier here than I ever did by that devil’s side! Melissa, did you know that if this is the treatment for captives, I might willingly stay here?”
I could hear the joy in her voice; after all, in the past few years, no one–neither her husband nor her pack–had treated her like a person.
“They’re trying to conquer us. Right now, they may seem friendly, but we have no idea what will happen next.”
Seeing her relaxed demeanor, I felt the need to warn her.
“As long as he doesn’t beat or abuse me,” Kala replied, tears welling in her eyes as she refused to recall her painful past.
Phoebe had told me that many Alphas, after encountering their destined ones, would transfer all of the latter’s pain onto the Luna.

Not all destined individuals were as noble as Courteney; Phoebe had been wronged countless times.

We both sighed, sharing stories that had broken our hearts.
About half an hour later, the maid arrived with new and alluring gowns. Then she helped us change, then escorted us to a warm, comfortable room.
The dining table was laden with dishes suitable for our region.
Kala needed the sustenance to regain her strength, but I had little appetite.
Once these formalities were completed, we were each led to separate rooms.
As I waited alone, my thoughts drifted back to Elliott.
I felt a flicker of gratitude toward Sebastian Agrigent for providing me with a legitimate reason to escape that damned place.
Suddenly, I heard a soft sound at the door, and my heart skipped a beat–I knew he had arrived.
Sebastian’s footsteps were silent against the carpet.
The fact that we were alone together was causing me a great deal of pressure, but my dignity would never allow me to bow my head before this man.
He lifted his head and said, “Take off my glasses.”
It was then that I noticed he had put on a pair of gold–rimmed glasses at some point.
“Um.”
I remained silent, biting my lip as I slowly removed the glasses from his face.
Holding them in my hand, I felt a bit flustered.
It was an intimate gesture, almost as if we were flirting under the guise of this mundane task.
A unique atmosphere pervaded our surroundings, and neither of us spoke.
We simply locked eyes, and I could see his breath had grown heavier. Our gazes intertwined, neither of us willing to look away.
Without his glasses, Sebastian’s presence seemed even more formidable, especially his eyes deep and icy, instilling a sense of dread.

I felt a twinge of fear but didn’t dare to move, determined not to show any weakness in front of him.

Whenever someone brought this up, I found it absurdly foolish.
“I’ve wanted to leave him for a long time; you just gave me the perfect opportunity. Now I can protect the people and things I care about.”
“Elliott Kauffman has an eye for talent, but unfortunately, he’s a fool. He’s too weak for you.”
I felt my face heat up, my breath growing uneven.
My heart was already racing, as if a small rabbit were thumping inside my chest.
I didn’t know how to respond to him.
“Don’t worry; you’re not my choice for entertainment.”
This man’s palm was kind of rough, with thin calluses on his hands.
When he touched my delicate skin, a shiver ran through me.
“With your status, of course, you

His warm fingertips traced along my chin as he spoke softly, “What kind of expression is that?”
Thinking I had overstepped, I took a step back.
Sebastian withdrew his hand from my neck.
That night, I surprisingly slept soundly.
The bed was soft and comfortable; if we truly rolled around on it, it would likely be quite pleasant…
By noon, the maid from last night led me to a new small building.
Inside, several women were dining, and I quickly spotted Phoebe, who had two doughnuts stuffed in her hands.
Just as I sat down, Kala/approached with a plate.
