Melissa’s POV
After finishing my community service distributing food, I tried to remain calm under the curious stares of the people around me.
Judging by their looks, they must have already heard about Elliott finding his destined
mate.
The pack, eager to grow stronger, certainly wouldn’t refuse such an outstanding woman ast his new partner.
Nor would they feel any sorrow over the pain I, the ordinary Luna, had to endure.
When I got home, Elliott had prepared breakfast for me.
But I had no appetite, not even a glance to spare for him.
“Please, just leave me alone for now.”
I wasn’t joking. I simply wanted some peace and quiet.
“Aaron still needs you to take care of him.”
Seeing my reluctance to engage in conversation, Elliott’s fingers froze as he rubbed his temples.
Realizing I was serious, he grew increasingly agitated once more.
“I told you, just give me a little time, okay? Melissa, you should trust me! After all, Courteney helped you take care of Aaron, and you couldn’t even given her a kind word. Do you think that’s appropriate? Where’s your sense of courtesy?”
His aggressive tone made me part my lips, only to close them again in silence.
For the first time in five years, I felt utterly exhausted, not wanting to explain anything.
“I’ve made plans with Phoebe tonight. Aaron is your responsibility.”
“Really? You’re not staying home tonight? Oh, oh, oh! Dad, can we go visit Aunt Courteney tonight?”
Aaron overheard me as he came downstairs, his eyes lighting wouldn’t be home.

All the effort and care I’d put into our mother–son bond couldn’t even compare to feeding a stray wolf on the street.
As I looked around the house, I realized that after five years, I had shockingly few personal belongings here.
It wasn’t until nightfall that I finally stepped out of my room.
Elliott and Aaron had already dressed in their suits and even sprayed the same cologne.
When Elliott caught sight of my emotionless face, he stared at me like I was some heartless, cold woman.
It was absurd. Weren’t they the ones who had started to break this family apart?
If they were all prepared to separate, why did they still bother to disgust me?
Taking a deep breath, Elliott was the first to speak.
“I’ve arranged a driver to take you.”
“No need.”
They were heading out to meet Courteney, I couldn’t suppress the nausea rising
within me. I didn’t want to spend another second in the same room with them.
Just as I was about to leave, a soccer ball came flying from behind, hitting me squarely in the back.
“If you’re going, hurry up! Don’t delay me and Dad!”
Aaron’s mocking voice followed in the air.
A strange pain spread throughout my body instantly, and I froze, unable to move for a long moment, drenched in cold sweat.
Was this really the son I had raised?
“Dad, look! She’s pretending again! The Luna of a werewolf pack shouldn’t be this weak. Aunt Courteney can always catch
my
ball.”
Elliott didn’t say a word, and I was unwilling to speak to either of them.
We remained in a tense silence for several minutes as I allowed them to leave right in front of me, as if nothing had happened.
When I arrived at the club, Phoebe had already arranged a private booth.
She had been my playmate since childhood, and her current situation filled me with regret.

With little explanation, Phoebe seemed to have been cast aside under the pretense of the pack’s and other wolves‘ interests.
Though she often wore a forced smile, her solitary presence at gatherings and her tendency to attend various events alone had made it clear to everyone that their relationship had fractured.
Yet, I suspected I wouldn’t be able to face this situation as calmly as as Phoebe did.

“You still have Aaron; don’t be so pessimistic,” Phoebe said with a wry smile as she took a long swig of absinthe and patted my shoulder.
“Three years ago, I lost the warmth of another person in my bed, and now they have a lovely child together. I have no choice but to face this.”
The way she spoke of her scars so casually made my heart bleed for her.
“I may not be as brave as you… Sometimes I wish we were just ordinary werewolves. If he weren’t an Alpha, we might not face these problems.”

Elliott furrowed his brow, gazing into my eyes.
Standing before him, I found myself unable to utter even a complete sentence.
“Please give me another chance, Melissa! I hope you’re willing to believe me!” He forced himself through the narrow gap in the door, repeatedly calling my name.

I puked out of reflex; I didn’t expect to find myself physiologically unable to accept his

I clenched my fists tightly, my nails digging deep into my palms, the pain seeming to distract me from my inner anxiety.

My breathing became rapid and irregular, as if I might suffocate at any moment.

heart still belongs to you. We are merely drawn together by fate. Just give me some time, and I promise I can control myself…”

I nearly shouted these words, my muscles tensed and my body trembling.
“Then how do you expect me to resist fate? Please, Melissa. Give me a little more understanding. I feel utterly weak and helpless. My father and the pack are suppressing me with all sorts of their power. To gain greater strength, I cannot go against the will of the Moon Goddess.”
Beads of sweat formed on his forehead, sliding down his skin.
