Love Story8–Chapter 1
At Georgia Hill’s birthday party, I was insulted by everyone to the point of leaving early Once outside, nearly fainting from anger, I didn’t think to call my boyfriend, Jeremy Wright, for the first time. Instead, I quietly dialed 911.
As I lay there with several IV drips still to go, I picked up my phone to check the time, only to see numerous messages from Jeremy.
“Amanda Carter, you should avoid appearing in Georgia’s circles from now on, and be more discreet when you’re out with me. Don’t let people see you.”
I only glanced at the messages before losing the patience to read further. Every one of them was a reproach directed at me–all for Georgia’s sake. He was even telling me, his official girlfriend, to sneak around with him, as if I truly were the other woman.
Just hours earlier, he had asked me to accompany him to Georgia’s birthday party. I hadn’t wanted to go, but he said Georgia specifically requested to see me. So I went, only to be met with a change in expression from all of Georgia’s friends as soon as they recognized me.
They recognized me as the girl who was often seen with Jeremy and angrily demanded to know if I was the other woman. I could only look to my boyfriend, Jeremy, and to Georgia for help.
It turned out that not long ago, Georgia had almost been assaulted when she followed Jeremy home. She asked him to be her boyfriend for a month as compensation. Jeremy agreed and later told me, “Amanda, I’m worried Georgia might do something reckless, so I want to pretend to be her boyfriend for a month. You won’t mind, right?”
Swallowing back tears, I choked out, “Of course not.”
But that very day, I accepted someone else’s proposal. Because even before Jeremy told me about his plan, he had quietly changed our matching profile pictures, our shared backgrounds, and even the official status on Instagram, In our eight years together, he had never once made our relationship public on Instagram.
That day, his declaration felt like a knife plunged straight into my heart.

“Hello, finally taking the initiative to call me?” Gavin Campbell’s lazy, slightly smug voice came through the phone.
