Chapter 8
Faced with Jeremy’s sudden question, I leaned in to look closely at the video and realized that these two men had also harassed me once. On that day, as I was returning home with groceries, they suddenly approached, offering to help me carry my bags. I refused, and surprisingly, they didn’t insist but just smiled and left after saying hello.
While I was still processing this, Jeremy pulled up another video. I glanced at it and, sure enough, it showed those two men talking to me.
“The surveillance caught you speaking to them. Georgia was planning to report it to the police, but I stopped her,” Jeremy explained. “Because of this video, I agreed to be her boyfriend for a month. Amanda, I truly didn’t betray our relationship.”
His eyes reddened as he looked at me with hope. “So… can you forgive me? We can start
over, Amanda…”
I gave a cold laugh. “Jeremy, first of all, if you really think I sent people to threaten her, then let her report it. And as for getting back together? That’s impossible.”
My words were firm and final, making Jeremy panic.
“Amanda, I only stayed with her for your sake, even planned the wedding just to provoke you. Please, forgive me one more time. I promise I’ll cut all ties with her, I-”
Just as he finished speaking, a voice interrupted us. “Jeremy!”
We both turned to see Georgia in a wedding dress.
“Jeremy, how could you run away from our wedding? Have you forgotten that I’m carrying your child?”
I couldn’t help but scoff. So much for him not betraying our relationship–they even had a child together. Jeremy noticed my expression and quickly tried to explain, “Amanda, it’s not what you think. It happened because I was drunk that night, really. You have to believe me.”
At that moment, Georgia/rushed over, clinging to Jeremy, crying, “Jeremy, come back and finish the wedding. Do you want our baby to grow up without a father?”

Chapter 8
Jeremy pushed her away as if she were a plague, his face twisted with disgust. “Get lost! I’ll never marry you. I’ll only ever love Amanda.”
Georgia, having been pushed, glared at me with fury and spat, “It’s all your fault, your wretched woman! You ruined my wedding–why don’t you just go die?”
She then lunged at me, and I quickly sidestepped, causing her to stumble and fall to the ground.
Just then, Gavin arrived. He pulled me behind him, scolding Georgia angrily, “Georgia, how dare you! Who gave you the nerve to lay a hand on my wife?”
Georgia, clutching her stomach, cried out in pain, “Jeremy, m–my stomach hurts. Take me to the hospital, please! Our baby can’t be hurt…”
Jeremy looked conflicted as he turned to me and said, “Amanda, please wait for me, okay? I’ll take her to the hospital first.” He then bent down, picked up Georgia, and, while telling me to wait, carried her into a taxi.
But, Jeremy, no one is going to wait for you forever.
As the plane took off, Gavin suddenly pulled me into his arms, resting his chin on my head. With a hint of vulnerability in his voice, he murmured, “Amanda, I thought you might leave with him. Thank goodness you didn’t. I love you, Amanda.”
I wrapped my arms around him, feeling a sudden pang of sympathy for this man. He always seemed carefree, but he was sensitive, perceptive, and surprisingly vulnerable. Still, a question lingered in my mind: how could he say he loved me so easily?
