Chapter 3 

Floral curtains, white sofas, and countless pink lilies… 

All of them were Charlotte’s favorites. 

“Daphne stared blankly, realizing the effort Matthew put in surpassed even the grand welcome she 

received when she first joined the Roberts family. Her eyes dimmed, and she felt an unprecedented sense of coldness and distance. 

As Emma and the other servants retreated, Matthew, at some point, had already entered the living room and was quickly heading up the stairs to see the woman he doted on the most–Charlotte. 

“Matthew…” 

Daphne suddenly turned, her voice trembling with emotion. “Aren’t you going to give me an explanation?” 

Matthew’s cold gaze swept over her, his tone devoid of any warmth. 

“Explain what? You know Charlotte’s health condition. Her emotions are extremely unstable, and 

she’s even had suicidal thoughts. She said this is her only wish, and I must fulfill it for her.”

“And what about me?” Daphne’s eyes welled up with tears. 

She stubbornly held them back, meeting the gaze of the man who once promised to protect her for a 

lifetime. 

“Don’t my feelings matter to you? Don’t forget, I am your wife!” 

Matthew’s expression tightened. 

He avoided her questioning eyes, his voice firm and resolute. 

“There’s a divorce agreement on the table. Just sign it. Once Charlotte recovers, we’ll remarry and get our marriage certificate again.” 

“How ridiculous.” 

Daphne’s heart felt desolate, and the pain she felt was indescribable.

Matthew’s face darkened. “This is just a temporary measure. Charlotte’s wish is important to her. You will still be the mistress of the Roberts family. Nothing will change. What’s there to fuss about?” 

He was clearly the one betraying their marriage, yet he was using both women as an excuse. 

Daphne’s heart ached, her tone laced with sarcasm. 

“A ‘mistress” who has to rely on a fake divorce to maintain her status? Matthew, do you really need 

that kind of ‘master‘ status?” 

“Daphne!”

Matthew’s sharp rebuke was filled with rage as he glared at her. 

Just then, a faint noise came from upstairs. 

Moments later, Charlotte’s fragile voice called out, “Matthew, it hurts…” 

Matthew’s expression shifted instantly, and he rushed upstairs without hesitation. 

Soon, his worried voice echoed from above, “Charlotte, how could you be so careless? You’ll worry 

me to death!” 

Daphne stood alone in the empty living room, her gaze slowly shifting to the cold divorce agreement 

on the table. 

“From today, Mr. Matthew Roberts and Ms. Daphne Walker voluntarily terminate their marital relationship.” 

Each word felt like a sharp blade, cutting through her already fragile heart. 

In the end, she fled back to her room, feeling utterly defeated. 

In the cold, lonely bedroom, she curled up on the carpet, her eyes unconsciously drawn to the wedding photo on the bedside table. 

In the photo, she and Matthew were smiling brightly, their eyes filled with hope for the future and deep affection for each other. 

She couldn’t help but reach out and touch the image of herself, as if she were transported back to that sunny afternoon.

The memory of his voice was as vivid as ever, and the way Matthew’s eyes lit up with excitement and tenderness seemed so real. 

But why did it now feel so distant?

After a long while, an abrupt ringtone jolted her back to reality. 

She opened her phone, and the message on the screen left her with a mix of emotions. 

“Ms. Walker, your scheduled hypnosis procedure will take place in seven days. Please prepare yourself.”
