Chapter 4 

Seven days. 

Only seven days left, and she would forget Matthew forever. 

In the next moment, Daphine wiped away her tears, placed the photo frame face down, changed her 

clothes, and left the house. 

Apartment complex at Lake District, Unit 2901. 

A young woman looked at her in disbelief. “Ms. Walker, are you really willing to sell this place to us at half price?” 

Daphne gazed at the young couple before her, feeling a bitter ache in her heart. 

“Yes, half price.” 

She handed them the keys, along with all the memories tied to that apartment. 

As she walked out of the complex, her expression remained calm. 

Perhaps not many people knew that Matthew built his fortune from scratch. 

Back then, in that very apartment complex, she had stayed by his side. They ate pizza, watched games, and stayed up all night working on plans… 

After they got married, Daphne bought the apartment, planning to surprise Matthew on their anniversary. 

But now, none of that mattered anymore. 

In seven days, she would forget Matthew completely, and the apartment would become unnecessary. 

The next day, around lunchtime. 

The three of them sat around the dining table, the atmosphere subtle and tense. 

All Daphne had to do now was wait. Once the time came, everything would finally be at peace.

She took a sip of her soup when suddenly, Charlotte clutched her stomach and cried out in pain. 

Matthew immediately stood up, rushing to Charlotte’s side, his eyes filled with concern and panic. 

“Charlotte, what’s wrong? Where does it hurt?” 

Charlotte leaned into Matthew’s arms, tears welling up, looking even more pitiful. 

“Matthew, I feel awful. Does this mean I won’t be able to attend our wedding?” 

“No, of course not. Emma, get the doctor right away!” 

Matthew quickly lifted Charlotte and carried her upstairs, completely forgetting about Daphne’s presence at the dining table. 

After a long while, the villa was in chaos. Daphne, unfazed by the commotion, got up and went back 

to her room. 

Passing by the second floor, she overheard the doctor’s heavy words, “Charlotte’s symptoms seem. like food poisoning.” 

“Poisoning? Charlotte and I always eat the same meals. How could she be poisoned?” 

Matthew’s eyes were filled with confusion and shock. 

Lying on the bed, Charlotte’s face was pale, and her voice was weak. “Matthew… I..” 

Her voice was faint and broken, making Matthew’s heart ache even more. 

“Charlotte, did you remember anything? Did you eat something you shouldn’t have?” 

The man sat gently beside her, holding her hand tightly. 

From the doorway, Daphne watched the scene. She thought her heart wouldn’t hurt anymore, but it 

was still difficult to walk away. 

The next moment, Charlotte pointed weakly towards her, speaking with discomfort. 

“Daphne went into the kitchen… but I don’t think she would hold a grudge about the wedding and do 

this to me…” 

fler voice, though feeble, carried every word like a heavy blow to Daphne’s heart. 

Daphne’s face froze, stunned by Charlotte’s accusation. 

She hadn’t expected Charlotte to suddenly turn the blame on her. 

Do you think I tried to hurt her?” 

Before she could finish, Matthew’s cold gaze pierced through her. “Why would you do that?” 

His eyes were sharp, filled with both anger and disappointment. 

At that moment, Daphne felt like her own response was a joke. She didn’t want to say anything else 

and headed back to her room. 

As she left, Charlotte’s gaze followed her retreating figure, a glint of malice flashing in her eyes. 

Jhside her room. 

Daphne lay on the armchair, her mind replaying the image of Matthew’s cold expression over and over. She closed her eyes, telling herself to endure it a little longer–just a few more days, and it 

would all be over. 

But when someone suppresses their emotions for too long, they inevitably need to release them. 

Daphne opened her eyes, got up, and left her room, heading towards Charlotte’s. 

Just as she reached the door, she overheard the woman’s soft, delicate voice from inside. 

“Matthew, will you promise to stay with me forever, never leaving me?” 

Her voice was so faint, yet it caused Matthew to tremble. 

Daphne held onto the wall just in time to stop herself from collapsing. 

Clutching her aching chest, she heard Matthew’s gentle, coaxing voice from the room. 

“What a silly thing to say. I’ve already chosen a beautiful cemetery, and in our next life, I’ll be with you again.”
