Donnael
Chapter 4
She instantly turned vicious like a rabid animal, screaming in Jasper’s arms: “Bitch! How dare you strip in front of my husband to seduce him
She lunged at me, slapping my face with her sharp nails scratching bloody lines across my cheek.
“I wasn’t”
I clutched the clothes in my arms protectively.
But she grabbed my hair and ripped the shirt away, throwing it hard into the rain.
“Old bastard, look at the daughter you raised! Ilis body’s not even cold and she’s already trying to seduce men–what a whore!”
She laughed maniacally.
I struggled into the rain, protecting the shirt with Dad’s ashes underneath me, letting her kick me over and over with her high heels.
It hurt so much!
Everything hurt.
I felt my abdominal wound tear open again, bright red blood flowing with the rainwater.
“Stop hitting me, help me-”
I tried to grab Vera’s foot for
mercy.
But she stepped on my hand with her sharp heel and ground down hard.
“I wish you’d just die!”
Lightning struck, illuminating her face twisted with rage.
I wouldn’t give up, begging Jasper for help again, but he just looked at me coldly: “You brought this on yourself.”
Vera finally got tired of beating me and turned to leave, but tripped on her red dress and fell in the mud.
Jasper panicked, dropping his umbrella and running over, pulling Vera out of the muddy water with his voice full of worry: “Are you hurt?”
He scooped Vera up princess–style, his icy voice falling on me: “If anything happens to Vera, you’ll pay with your life.”
The rain pounded harder on my body!
I knelt in the freezing mud, my fingers already purple from cold, but still mechanically digging through clumps of mud, searching for Dad’s ashes.
Sharp pain tore through my abdomen like a dull knife twisting back and forth.

But none of it compared to one ten–thousandth of the pain in my heart.
“I’m sorry, Dad. If I hadn’t asked you to help us leave back then, none of this would’ve happened-”
I struggled to place Dad’s ashes back in the grave and cover it properly.
My body got colder and colder, my abdomen hurt more and more.
Feeling like my soul and body were both tearing apart, I pulled out my phone and dialed that number again.
“Have you decided? Can you tell me everything that happened back then from start to finish?”
Silence on the other end again.

I begged with a trembling voice: “Please, my dad’s dead, and I’m dying too. Before I die, I just want to clear my dad’s name?
The voice finally spoke slowly. I hit record, and the truth from all those years ago finally came to light.
Jasper, after I die, I hope you hear thus recording and stop wrongly blaming my dad.
The phone screen went dark, and I completely passed out.
In the darkness, I could feel my life slipping away hit by bit.
In a daze, I seemed to hear Dad whispering in my ear: “Daughter, Daddy’s here to take you home…”
With my last breath, I fell into Dad’s arms.
Goodbye forever, Jasper!
Someone kept shouting in my ear: “Miss, don’t sleep! Wake up!”
I slowly opened my eyes and saw it was that young man from years ago.
“Thank God, Miss! If I hadn’t been on the phone with you and noticed you stopped responding, I wouldn’t have known you were hurt so badly. Good thing I found you in time.”
“Thank-
Before I could finish, a shrill female voice rang out.
“Ahhh! Let him die, let them both die! They humiliated me back then, and now they’re working together again–they must be plotting against me!
“Why are you two together?”
Jasper’s furious voice boomed: “Summer, and here you kept swearing you weren’t working with him! Why are you together now?”
He stormed over and yanked me out of the young man’s arms.
Then kicked the guy hard, sending him sprawling: “Get lost! If my wife sees you again, you’re dead!”
The young man cowered in fear, but his eyes were still full of worry: “But she’s badly hurt–she’ll die without treatment!”
“Shut up!”
“Believe me, I’ll kill you right now!”
Jasper gripped my wrist so tight it felt like he’d snap it, his rage consuming everything.
The young man didn’t dare say another word, stumbling as he got up and ran.
“Take her back and lock her up!”
I remembered what Dad said before he died: “Daddy’s leaving now, won’t burden you anymore. Leave them and go live your life.”
