Chapter 5
I wanted to try one last time.
For Dad, I wanted to live!
“Jasper, don’t lock me up–save me!”
My hands were covered in blood, leaving a bloody handprint on his expensive white shirt.
He slapped my pleading hand away.
Sneering: “Don’t worry, Summer! Evil people live a thousand years. You’re so evil, you won’t die. Quit acting pitiful in front of me.”
The bodyguards dragged me from the hospital to the basement of the villa.
No water, no food, no medical help whatsoever.
I silently counted my heartbeats to track time, until even the numbers started getting blurry.
Three days later, Jasper finally calmed Vera down.
“Take her some water and medicine.”
He ordered the bodyguard.
Soon, the bodyguard came running up from the basement in a panic.
“Sir, something’s wrong! Miss Summer, she–she-”
The usually well–trained bodyguard was pale as a ghost, too scared to speak.
“What’s that woman pulling now?”
A flash of panic crossed Jasper’s mind.
“Miss Summer… she’s not breathing.”
The bodyguard said fearfully.
“Impossible!”
Jasper slammed his coffee cup hard on the table.
Whenever I’d upset Vera before, they’d punish me the same way–no water, no food. I always survived just fine.
Why was this time different?
“Miss Summer’s body is rotting. Her previous wounds must not have been treated in time—”
Seeing Jasper’s deathly pale face, the bodyguard didn’t dare continue.
When he trembled his way down to the basement and saw me–completely rotted and reeking of decay–Jasper finally lost it.
Clutching his chest, he started puking violently.
“No way, impossible-”
“Vera barely touched her. How could she be hurt this badly?”
He muttered to himself, shaking all over from fear or disgust.

Just then, my phone suddenly rang.
It was an alarm I’d set.
With no signal in the basement and no way to call for help, I’d set alarms to keep waking myself up every time I passed out.
But this time, I’d never wake up again.
