“Do you know who I am?” Savannah flashed her participation card at the staff. The staff’s expressions were strained. Savannah’s name was notorious in this competition. “We know you, Ms. Savannah–the amateur racer without a racing license. Since this is your first international event, let me educate you,” the lead staff member said sharply.“Don’t barge into other racers‘ rooms!” He looked around.“Who let you in?”
Savannah’s
lighting crew glanced at her.“They’re
my people!” she declared.
The staff member growled, “The race is about to start. You’re disrupting Luna with all these people. What’s your intention?”
Suddenly, “bang!” A helmet fell from the counter. A flustered lighting technician quickly picked it Up and replaced it, shoving a small tube into his pocket.
Evelyn noticed the tube. If it were merely a prop, why hide it?
The incident enraged the staff.“That’s Luna’s helmet! Get out! I’m calling the police!”
They tried to shoo them away. Tommy refused to leave. A staff member lifted him. He struggled, kicking and screaming.
“I’m from the Reed Corporation!” His face puffed up in anger.
“Even if you’re the CEO’s son, you can’t barge in and disrupt Luna,” the staff member retorted.
“Let go
of me!”
The staff member put him down outside the room. Tommy’s hat and sunglasses fell off. He angrily stomped on his sunglasses.
“Hmph! I’ll get my dad to fire all of you!”
Savannah instructed her crew. “Get pictures of their faces. Caleb will blacklist them!”
The staff member glared.“I don’t care about Reed Corporation’s blacklist. I won’t volunteer for Reed–sponsored events again! People like you are a plague on this industry! And the CEO who shoved you into this race is a disgrace!”
Savannah started to curse, but the staff member spat on her.“We volunteer out of love for racingh You, a racer, don’t even understand the rules. Disagree? Call the police! Savannah trembled. The welts from Richard’s beating still ached.
“You’re bullying me!” Her face contorted.
The staff had had enough.“Yes, we are. Shall we call the police for you?” Savannah deflated. Calling the police would ruin her chances of competing. “Let’s go!” she ordered her crew.
Finally alone, Celia asked, “What’s with your son? He’s Lily’s twin, yet their personalities are so different.”
“The Reed family keeps a tight leash on Tommy. His grandmother controls his upbringing. I’m grateful she
pays less attention to Lily,” Evelyn said, a fleeting shadow crossing her face.“For five years, I’ve tried to correct his behavior. But the Reed family keeps telling him he’s right, that he’s the grandson and future heir, so whatever he does is justified.”

She picked up a helmet.“Shine your phone’s flashlight in here.”

Celia shone her light into the helmet. Tiny insects, smaller than grains of sand, flew out. Celia gasped. “There are insects in the helmet?” The temperature was too dry and cold for insects,
and this was a brand–new helmet.
“The only person who
person who touched it was the lighting technician,” Evelyn said. Celia was shocked.“Did he tamper with it?!” Then she realized.“Savannah made him do it!”
Evelyn calmly called Damon.“Master Sterling, please investigate if any of the helmets were tampered with. Keep it discreet.”
Damon, as the powerful figure behind the race, had the authority to do this. Moon Racing was dissolved, but he was still a major backer.
Damon’s smooth voice answered, “Got it. I’ll have people look into it.” He didn’t ask why. He trusted her judgment.
“Thank you, Master Sterling.” Before she could hang up, he spoke again.“I have something interesting to share.”
He sent a surveillance video. Celia joined her in watching it. It showed a mechanic in the repair shop fiddling with the hood of a car, constantly glancing around, clearly trying to be inconspicuous.
The video was three minutes old.
Celia gasped.“The hood was tampered with!”
Damon’s
voice came through the phone.“I’m investigating who ordered it
Evelyn remained calm. Though the culprit was still unknown, she had a plan.“Let’s not fix the hood latch before the race.”
› Celia protested. “Evelyn, that’ll affect
your race!”
“It needs to, so the culprit gets caught.”
Celia’s breath hitched.
Evelyn reassured her gently, “Celia, trust me.”
Celia’s eyes welled up.“You always make me worry sick!”
Damon’s voice, soft and low, echoed through the phone.“I worry about Evelyn, but I never let her carry extra burdens before a race.”
Celia stared. Was that… Master Sterling vying for Evelyn’s affection? In what capacity was he competing with her for her attention?
Damon’s voice continued.“Evelyn, do what you want. As long as you know I’m here, everything will be alright!”
Evelyn retrieved her helmet from the locker and headed for the race track. At the entrance, Caleb leaned against a wall, waiting.
