Caleb lunged for the Corona’s door, intending to pull Evelyn out, but staff intervened. “Mr. Reed, the race is about to begin!”
“Mr. Reed, please don’t interfere with Luna’s preparations.”
“That’s Evelyn in the Corona!” Caleb insisted, more to himself than anyone else.“She can’t be Luna!”
The door

“Luna! Luna!”
The fans, fervent in their devotion, watched as the Corona sped towards the starting line, many openly weeping. But where was Evelyn? The real Luna hadn’t appeared; the race was about to begin.
Savannah, inside her car, seeing Caleb at the track’s edge, instinctively wanted to roll down her window and wave. He could have watched from the VIP box, but he was here–clearly invested in her. She felt a surge of pride.
She lowered the window, waving excitedly.“Caleb!” Her voice was muffled by her helmet. He didn’t even glance at her car.“Savannah, why did you open the window?! The race is starting!” Vincent, at the control panel, saw her open the window. His blood pressure spiked. He grabbed his radio and yelled a string of curses in English. Savannah couldn’t understand, complaining, “What are you yelling for?”
The translator frantically urged her via radio, “Close the window! Focus on the race!” He was struggling to comprehend Savannah’s actions. This was an exhibition, but she was taking it far too lightly.
The starting horn blared three times. The cars shot forward. Vincent s start. He groaned, the engineers muttering their frustrations. Her ter: last place.

“I’m not following Luna’s ass! Stop nagging!” Savannah switched off her comms. She didn’t need their guidance. They didn’t believe in her. She’d prepared everything. To avoid suspicion, she’d placed tiny insects in the helmets of five of the worst–performing racers. During the race, the insects would crawl into their hair, eyes, and faces, disrupting their performance. Only then would her last–place position improve. She’d also put insects in Luna’s purely out of spite. If Luna failed, her reputation would be ruined. Savannah smirked, like crocodile waiting for its prey make

“She turned off her comms! That arrogant woman!” Vincent slammed his radio on the table. Another engineer covered his face in shame at Savannah’s driving.“The Chinese saying is true:

“I’m packing my bags. I’m not going down with her!”
Savannah’s gap from the others widened. Why weren’t they making mistakes? No one was slowing down. She panicked; she was going to come in last!
She had a backup plan.
“Luna! Luna!”
In the VIP box, Tommy, holding a Corona model car, jumped up and down before the window. Grandma Reed, disinterested in racing, was there to keep her grandson company and to see Luna, whom he’d become obsessed with. She didn’t believe Luna was worthy of the Reed family.
She’d heard Luna retired five years ago to get married and have a baby. Her return was either due to family support or marital problems forcing her to work. Either way, a woman working meant
a useless husband.
Grandma Reed watched Tommy, pondering how to dissuade him from wanting Luna as his new mother. If Luna learned of the Reed family’s interest, she’d try to seduce Caleb! She’d have a talk with Luna after the race.
Several heiresses surrounded Tommy with drinks and fruit.
“I don’t want them! Get away! You’re blocking my view!” He ignored them, pushing away the offered grapes and strawberries.
One heiress almost dropped her plate. Another’s grapes fell. A third persisted, “Honey water. You’ve been shouting. This will soothe your throat.”
Tommy glared. He knew they wanted to be his new mommy. But he already had someone in mind, their advances only increasing his irritation.
“Give that to Alex! He needs a new mommy too!”
