Chapter 30: Little Ducky Went Flying
The next day dawned.

The roar of a black, heavy–duty motorcycle cut through the morning air, drawing curious glances from passersby. Nash braked, revealing a small figure in a black leather jacket and helmet perched in front of her.She flipped up the visor, revealing a mischievous grin.
“Evelyn Need a hand?”
She and Ducky arrived at the gym Lance managed, just as Evelyn emerged from the stairwell, arrying two large garbage bags.Evelyn was in a simple beige sweatshirt, her sleeves pushed up to Her elbows, her hair loosely tied back.A few strands escaped, framing her delicate face. The small figure in front of Nash yelled, “Why are you even talking to her?!” It was Ducky. He was mortified by Evelyn’s appearance.
Nash’s eyes gleamed with malicious glee. She was here to witness Evelyn’s downfall. She saw Zoey carrying a case of bottled water down the stairs; the girl’s arms were surprisingly strong. Lance and the movers emerged from the elevator, carefully loading heavy gym equipment onto a flatbed truck. Caleb had bought out the building’s lease at three times the market price and ordered Lance to clear out the gym within the day.The scene was a delicious spectacle for Nash.
“Evelyn, you’re a jinx! If you hadn’t come looking for your brother, he wouldn’t have been dragged down by you, resulting in this gym c
ire.”
“Nash, if you’ve got a problem, take it somewhere else. I’m not a vet,” Evelyn retorted, tossing the bags into a dumpster.
Nash and Caleb didn’t know that Evelyn’s brother, Lance, owned the five–story commercial building. He’d purchased the building and sublet it to various landlords. He’d previously rented space to a landlord whose wife was seriously ill, opening the gym to repay the favor. The landlord, in turn, repaid Lance by paying triple the rent.
Lance, upon hearing Nash’s taunts, approached her. Before he even reached her, his shadow fell over her, an oppressive aura that even Ducky felt.
“Tell Caleb that I won’t be defeated! I’ve already contacted landlords at the Bayview Mall and Star City Plaza. If he wants to beat me, let him offer a better price to get those spaces instead of me.”
Evelyn stood behind Lance, stifling a laugh. Those two locations belonged to him; he’d happily see Caleb spend extra money.
Nash seethed inwardly; she’d make Caleb buy those spaces! But Lance’s intensity cowed her. “Mr. Lance, nobody wants to fight you.But Evelyn keeps provoking Caleb. If you distance yourself from her, you’ll live peacefully in this city!”
Ducky tugged at Nash’s shirt.“Let’s go! Don’t talk to them!”
Lance’s imposing aura made Ducky feel suffocated.Taking off his helmet to face Lance directly was out of the question.
Nash glanced at Evelyn.“Aren’t you going to say goodbye to your mom?” “Ugh!” From a distance, Ducky wrinkled his nose at the smell of the dumpster.
Lance’s jaw clenched.
“I don’t want that smelly mom! I just want Nash!Nash, let’s go for a ride! This place stinks!”

“Lance! If you touch Ducky, Caleb will run you out of the city!” Nash challenged, reveling in her power over Lance.
“Evelyn, if I recall correctly, today’s the last day of your and Caleb’s divorce cooling–off period. After your divorce, Caleb remains the hottest bachelor in the city, but you…”
Nash scanned Evelyn from head to toe, her disdain palpable.
“You haven’t even found a decent job yet! Your parents shouldn’t have taken you in. You should have stayed in the gutter! Goodbye, my pathetic sister!”
Ducky echoed her sentiment in his head,*Bye–bye, my dramatic, annoying_mom.* Nash’s words were lost in the roar of the motorcycle as she turned around and started driving in the
lane. Suddenly,
swerved frantically. appeared head–on!Nash A deafening crash. Her bike slammed into the roadside railing.Ducky, sitting in front of her, went flying.
