Chapter 34: She’s Back, But Too Afraid to Disturb Him
Nash was startled by the icy aura emanating from Caleb. She saw the murderous glint in his eyes. “What’s wrong? Did Evelyn say something to upset you again?”
Caleb gritted his teeth.“Shane!”
Nash was stunned.
“Mmm,” Shane’s amused voice, almost deafening in the silence of the night, reached Caleb’s ear.

Nash stared at Caleb, speechless.

Shane’s voice was calm and measured.“Evelyn’s staying at a hotel I own.I couldn’t let my guest disturbed. Besides…”

He paused.“Does she have to mourn our divorce for three years?” Caleb’s expression turned even colder. The veins in his clenched fists bulged. “Shane, have you had feelings for Evelyn all along? You flew twelve hours from overseas for my son’s birthday, rushing straight here…for Evelyn, right?”
Caleb recalled every time he’d seen Shane; Evelyn had always been present.Apparently, Shane wasn’t trying to build a relationship with him; he was using his events to get closer to Evelyn. Caleb felt a growing anger.“Sneaking around with another man’s wife, Mr. Shane? That’s low.” Shane scoffed.“Mr. Fu, in what capacity are you criticizing me?”
“Because she was my wife!!”
“But those who betray true hearts swallow ten thousand needles.”
Caleb froze, as if an invisible hand were squeezing his stomach, digging its nails in. Cold sweat beaded on his forehead.
“Mr. Fu, have some decency. Let Evelyn sleep.”
Shane hung up.
Caleb tossed his phone aside. Nash was eager to know.“Shane was in Evelyn’s room tonight?” Before Caleb could answer, Nash cried out, “Evelyn divorced you this morning and went to a hotel with Shane tonight!”

An hour later, a groggy Caleb was awakened by Nash.

Nash switched on the bedroom light.Caleb’s head throbbed. He sat up, drenched in sweat. If Evelyn were here, she would change his clothes, wipe him down, tuck him in, and make him comfortable.
He felt frustrated and tugged at his collar.

Nash was annoyed.“I rode all over town, and I don’t know what kind of medicine you take. I bought several; hopefully, one will work!”
“I’m fine now. Go home,” Caleb said coldly.“Turn off the lights.”
A chill radiated from him. Nash packed up the medicine.“Okay. Get some
rest.”
She lingered, reluctant to leave. She wouldn’t let him forget who truly cared for him.
She noticed Evelyn’s bedroom was separated from Caleb’s by a sliding door. Opening it, she smirked at the sight of the “ex–wife’s” room.
The next morning, Caleb woke up and saw the sliding door open.
He froze.Was Evelyn back?
His fatigue vanished. A faint smile touched his lips. She regretted it, sneaking back, too afraid to disturb him.
