“Yes, this is my daughter, Yingzhou Jiang.”
The reporter was surprised.“She takes your last name?”
Evelyn nodded.“Yes.”
“And your husband…”

A reporter asked Zoey, “Yingzhou, would you like to be interviewed?”
Zoey nodded.“Okay.”
The small reporter asked, “Why did you grab that boy’s collar?”
“He told everyone not to play with me!Even my best friend! I was angry.
Zoey looked at her hands.“I didn’t expect I could lift Ducky so easily. He’s so light!”
The CCTV cameraman had been surprised to see Zoey lift Ducky.
“Yingzhou, can you lift my camera? It’s about twenty kilos.”
Zoey easily lifted the professional camera with one hand.“This is much lighter than a barbell!“The cameraman’s jaw dropped.
“Yingzhou, your mother won first place in the ALI Math Competition. What would you say to her?”

Evelyn gazed at Zoey, warmth flooding her heart.
Other children watched enviously.
“Wow, Zoey’s going to be on TV!”
Ducky crossed his arms, scowling.“We’ve been on TV before! It’s nothing special!”
His friends said, “We were only on the Beijing Children’s Channel. My mom said dozens of media outlets are interviewing Zoey and your mom.Everyone in Beijing will know about Zoey and her super smart and amazing mom!”
Ducky stared at Evelyn and Zoey, surrounded by reporters. They were right in front of him, yet he felt worlds apart.
“Humph! I don’t care! Even if she becomes famous, I won’t leave the Fu family with her!” Nash stood by her motorcycle.Many parents lingered, listening to the interview. The small reporter asked Evelyn, “The principal said he wanted to expel Yingzhou. Where will you send her now?”
The principal, trembling, approached.“Ms. Jiang, you won first place in the ALI competition. Why didn’t you tell me? Parents from the elementary, middle, and high schools want you to give math
lectures.”
He added, “If you give thirty free
lectures, I won’t expel your daughter.”

Evelyn scoffed. “You slandered my daughter; she won’t be returning to 崇德” The principal was annoyed. He’d offered her a way out, and she rejected it!No wonder the Pus abandoned her.
“Mis the best kindergarten in Beijing. Where else will she go? Offering lectures is a privilege.” He pointed at the file.“Think carefully, Ms. Jiang. I gave you a chance. Sometimes, you need to swallow your pride!”
“I’ve thought it through,” Evelyn said firmly.“Even if you changed your mind, this school is toxic.I Awon’t let my daughter stay here!”
She publicly rebuked him. His face flushed; he was breathing heavily. He pointed at Evelyn and said to the reporters, “See? Evelyn doesn’t want her daughter here, not me.Don’t misreport this!”
So many vehicles were parked that several more arriving went unnoticed.Commissioner Bai, inside one, saw the school gates and gasped.
“Why are we here?”
He saw other government vehicles behind him. He was panicked. The driver was confused.“Mr. Shane told me you were coming to.”
Bai glared at Shane, who was calm and composed.Sunlight illuminated his profile.
He casually turned, meeting Bai’s furious gaze.“You should get out.”
“You should,” Shane corrected.
Bai was desperate.“Shane, don’t play games. Why would I get out? The disciplinary committee is here because of you!”
Bai regretted offering Shane a ride.He’d shown Shane the principal’s file, asking for his analysis.He’d thought he’d get some free legal advice, but Shane had directed the driver here! The disciplinary officials were following them.
Shane handed Bai his phone.
“The ALI Math Competition preliminary results are out.”
Bai ignored him, telling the driver, “Drive to the prosecutor’s office!”
Shane continued, “Evelyn won first place.”
Bai’s eyes flickered, but his face remained impassive.
Shane looked out the window.“She’s being interviewed.Dozens of cameras are on her. She hasn’t disappointed you.”
Bai slowly turned, seeing Evelyn amidst the crowd. She was talking to the principal, her demeanor strong and confident. The principal looked uneasy.
“You came here because of Evelyn?” Bai stated.
Shane placed a file on Bai’s hand.
“You knew what would happen today.Instead of reporting the principal, I wanted you to see her, to help her turn the situation around. Like you did when you protected her at MIT.” Bai’s eyes misted.Memories flooded back.He glared at Shane. Why did he have to use those few words to hit his soft spot?
He picked up the file.“I’m not like your father. I truly see her as a daughter.Since she’s divorced, I
