Chapter 54:A One–Sided Beatdown, and a Kneeling Fan
Timmy’s words hung in the air, Sean letting out a dismissive laugh. Damon ignored his son’s comment entirely. Timmy stared at Luna’s back, realizing his mistake; mistaking Luna for his dramatic mother was an insult of the highest order.
Several of Sean’s rich friends immediately offered Luna their bikes.
“Luna, take mine!”
Luna, use this one!”
Tina recognized these guys; if she removed her helmet, their enthusiasm would vanish. They were Sean’s closest friends, and they’d been openly hostile toward her since her return to the Lane family at 18.Even as Damon’s wife, their attitude toward her depended on his. Sean wheeled out her own bike, resentment burning in her eyes as she saw her friends fawning over Luna.Confident in her skills a well–known online racer- and knowing Luna would be riding a borrowed bike, she felt victory was within her grasp. She glanced up at the stands, a girl giving her a subtle signal.A triumphant smile played on Sean’s lips.In ten minutes, she’d dethrone Luna.
Luna spotted Shane approaching with a custom motorcycle. He gestured toward the black machine. Use this one.”
Luna saw a crescent moon painted on the side. Her heart skipped a beat; was this bike custom–made for her?She quickly dismissed the thought as presumptuous, thanking Shane. “We’ll split the winnings, three to you, seven to me.”
Shane chuckled.“Your victory is the best reward for me… and this bike!“He patted the seat. “I call her Lunar.”
The old Lunar Racing team was gone, but in his spare time, he’d built this custom motorcycle. He’d painstakingly painted the crescent moon himself. He’d thought it would sit in his garage, dnseen. Now, he was letting his moon shine.
A wave of emotion washed over Luna.
She mounted the bike, facing Sean on the starting line. Timmy ran to join Damon in the stands. “Dad, who do you think will win, Sean or Luna?”
Damon didn’t
didn’t “I
answer. Timmy mumbled, ‘I hope both Sean and Luna win.” The starting horn drowned out his words. Luna and Sean roared off!The race was a three–lap sprint on a 3.6km track.
Sean, leveraging her familiarity with the course, took an early lead. She’d raced this track for years, while Luna was seeing it for the first time, still breaking in her new bike.Sean smirked, glancing in her rearview mirror. The famed Luna was nothing special. Tonight, she’d defeat her. Tomorrow, she’d be a legend.
The first turn approached.
“Whoosh!”
The black bike effortlessly sliced past Sean, pulling far ahead. Sean was stunned. How had Luna gap widened with suddenly taken the lead? She gunned the engine, pursuing relentlessly, but the each turn.

“Holy shit! Luna didn’t even slow down for the turns!”
“Unbelievable! This is her first time on this track, no warm–up!”
“That’s our national champion for you!Terrifyingly skilled!”
Sean’s jaw clenched. She’d have to rely on outside help. From the stands, a water bottle sailed. through the air, landing on the track.Even a small pebble at high speed could cause a crash.
The bikes thundered past, the crowd reacting instinctively Luna’s bike would surely hit the bottle.Even if she avoided it directly, she’d have to slow down to
to avoid it.
bree meters from the bottle, Lunar leaned sharply to the side, Luna reaching down and snatching the bottle mid–drift. The crowd hadn’t reacted yet when there was a “thump” as the bottle disappeared into a nearby trash can. Lunar sped away.
“Holy crap!!”
“Whoa!!!”
Some slapped their foreheads in shock, mouths agape. Others nearly fainted.

The race continued, but no one cared about Sean anymore. Even her friends were cheering for Luna.
Timmy stared, wide–eyed. On the screen, Luna was completely out of Sean’s sight. The cameras were following only Luna.
He jolted, hearing the roar of the crowd:“Luna! Luna!!”
Timmy jumped up, shouting until his voice was hoarse, “Luna! Luna!”
“Damn it!!”
Sean was furious. She’d lost sight of Luna. She’d raced extensively in Beijing, her victories giving her the confidence to challenge Luna. But Luna, a four–wheeled pro, was far superior on two wheels. And she’d still managed impressive stunts.
“Whoosh!”
A black blur flashed past Sean. Her eyes widened, her breath catching in her throat. She was a full lap behind!!
