Chapter6: Caleb, I Don’t Love You Anymore
Evelyn felt a tidal surge of anger and humiliation crashing over her. She calmly reached out and picked up
thecE.
Savannah’s eyes gleamed, a mocking light dancing in them. Caleb leaned back on the sofa, averting his gaze. Evelyn was like a dog; all he needed to do was ignore her and then offer her a gift her tail would wag automatically.

Evelyn used a single finger to gently dislodge the necklace from Savannah’s neck. She laid the two Necklaces side by side.
Savannah, I think the one on your neck is of better quality. Shall we exchange?” If she said the one Savannah gave her was a fake, Savannah would concoct a dozen excuses. Evelyn wanted Savannah to suffer the silent sting of embarrassment. The thin chain tightened slightly around Savannah’s neck.
Savannah visibly froze. She’d been expecting Evelyn to foolishly put on the fake necklace and become the laughingstock. But Evelyn saw right through her trick.
Savannah nervously checked Caleb’s reaction. The “peace offering” was her own idea, not Caleb’s. She couldn’t let him know it was a fake.
“Evelyn, whatever you want, you can have it!”
Savannah generously removed her necklace, offering it to Evelyn. However, Evelyn didn’t take it. Instead, she calmly placed the fake necklace around Savannah’s neck.
“This suits you better.”
Savannah’s face flushed crimson. It was like a slap in the face! That fake necklace cost only $30, while hers was worth over $10,000!
Evelyn took the real necklace and tossed it in the trash.
“Evelyn! If you’re mad, take it out on me, don’t ruin my necklace!”
Evelyn cut her off.“If you want it back, pick it up and put
put it on yourself.” “Evelyn! Don’t you want to reconcile with Caleb?”
Savannah tried to remove the fake necklace. It was already making her itchy. “I’m not here to reconcile. Caleb, we’re done.”
Evelyn produced a document and placed it in front of Caleb. “This is the divorce agreement. Please sign.”
A frost settled over Caleb’s handsome face. His cold laughter was laced with disdain.“One more word and I’ll take it seriously.”
“Just read it. I hope you’ll sign it promptly.” There was no anger in her voice. Seven years of marriage had left her emotionally drained. Severing ties with the Reeds was her only path to a new beginning.
Caleb opened the agreement. Seeing Evelyn’s claim to half his marital assets, he almost laughed. But then his expression shifted. “How do you know so much about my liquid assets and property?”
“It doesn’t matter how I know. I was a full–time housewife for seven years. It’s time to settle accounts. Your funds, cars, houses, land, and equity we split it 50/50. You’ll pay $200,000 in

child support per month until Lily turns eighteen.”
A flicker of something akin to surprise crossed Caleb’s usually impassive features. “Is this because of the matching watches?”
Evelyn took a deep breath.“Three months ago, for your birthday, I bought you a watch with my investment earnings. You never wore it.”
Savannah blurted out, “Evelyn, the watch you bought is so… outdated. If Caleb wore that, everyone would laugh at him!”
Apparently, Evelyn was being unreasonable.
Caleb’s voice grew colder. He held up the agreement.“Is this blackmail? Or is this a joke?” “Evelyn, are you getting a divorce because of me?” Savannah feigned confusion. Evelyn smiled.“You can repeat that a little louder, so everyone in the house can hear.” Savannah’s face turned uneasy, her voice softer, “Evelyn, why are you so aggressive? You weren’t like this before!”
Seeing Savannah on the defensive, Tommy jumped from the sofa, acting like a miniature protector for Savannah.
“Mommy, can you be reasonable?” He crossed his arms, displeased. Daddy works so hard. But when he comes home, he has to deal with your bad mood. You’re just an outsider. Why are you trying to take Daddy’s money?!”
His words struck Evelyn’s chest. She answered, ‘Because I bore his children and managed his household!”
Tommy rejected this.“You stay at home all day! You don’t do anything! If you want a divorce, you get one! I’m definitely not going with you!”
He puffed out his cheeks, trying to make her give in. He knew that Evelyn couldn’t bear to see him upset. Whenever he threw a tantrum, she’d drop everything to comfort him.
Tommy Reed, Evelyn used his full name.“I never intended to take you with me. You’ve been groomed as the Reed heir since birth. But I won’t revolve my life around you anymore.” She addressed Caleb formally. “The agreement is clear. I only want Lily’s custody. I’m not taking Tommy.”
Tommy crossed his arms, lips pursed. Heh! He didn’t believe her. She couldn’t take him, so she was pretending to take Lily instead! Lily was a mama’s girl; she had no opinion of her own.
Caleb asked, “Evelyn, do you think you

“That’s my business!”
Caleb laughed.“Evelyn, you can’t handle that kind of money. You’ll crawl back and beg me for help!”

part amicably, okay?” “Evelyn, how can you be so greedy? Taking half of Caleb’s assets… what will people think of our family?” Savannah defended Caleb.
Evelyn scoffed, “Looks like you don’t care about money at all. Then never put your hand into my
pocket.”
“Of course I won’t!” Savannah denied it immediately. She felt it was a trap, even though she

Caleb softened his tone, offering a compromise. If you’re tired, have a break. Take supplementary card to Europe and come back when you’re done shopping.” He was giving her an out; she should accept it.
Evelyn’s eyes drooped with fatigue.“Caleb, I don’t love you anymore. For seven years, she’d been his housekeeper, managing the entire household, her yearly expenditures scrutinized by his mother. Going to Europe? If she tried to get a visa, her mother–in–law would call her and told her to stay at home with the children. She’d been suffocating in the Reed family, yearning for Caleb to reach out, only to find herself at the bottom of a pit filled with the sharp words of her

She was no longer waiting for rescue. Only she could save herself.
