hapter 76:Ejected
The contract crinkled in Fletcher Caldwell’s grip, his knuckles bone–white. His uncle, Lucian’s voice, though calm, was a force he couldn’t withstand.
“Your father failed to raise you properly,” Lucian said, the words a hurricane that shattered Fletcher’s decades of self–assured arrogance. He was the head of the Caldwell family, the CEO of Caldwell Industries, a man everyone obeyed. He believed he was untouchable, a king But he’d discovered a higher power, and that power was punishing him.His breath hitched in his chest.
Uncle Lucian, we’re not just… irrelevant,” said Serena James, trying to ingratiate herself.Lucian
sn’t imposing, but his face, undeniably handsome, was intimidating. Standing just six feet away, Serena found her words stumbling.
Her husband, Sterling, chimed in,“Mr. Caldwell, we’ve met before! And I’m Willow’s father. We’re family! We can’t be considered irrelevant!”
Lucian’s icy gaze fell upon Sterling. It was a glacial stare, capable of freezing the blood in his
veins.
“Is someone who threw their own daughter out considered family?”
Willow’s heart pounded. How did he know about her and her daughter, Lily, being kicked out by her family?
Sterling stammered, “It wasn’t… there’s more to it…”
“Silence!”
Lucian’s voice, though soft, was a silencing command. He nodded to Fletcher.“Show them out.” Sterling, a seasoned businessman, had never been treated like this. One minute they were having dinner, the next, they were being thrown out?
Serena’s eyes darted to Fletcher, who simply offered a cold, impassive face.“Leave.” Since Lucian, at the age of seven, had displayed his exceptional intellect, the Caldwell family had followed one unwavering rule: Keeping Lucian happy was paramount. Sterling gathered his daughter, Lily.“Baby, we’re leaving. You’re not finished eating.” Lily mumbled, “But I’m not full yet!”
Sterling soothed her, “Sweetheart, I’ll take you somewhere else. “Lily clutched the designer gown, still in its box. Willow didn’t care; anything Fletcher gave her would end up as a rag.Fletcher, though annoyed, wanted to see if Willow would regret the loss of the $10,000 dress.
Serena, despite her reluctance, rose. Willow had told her Lucian was a force even her grandfather respected.Even as a child, Willow had known Lucian was on a different plane of existence.Even little Timmy looked at Lucian with apprehension.
“I… I have to leave too?” Timmy asked his father, pleading for help.
Fletcher instructed Serena, “Take Timmy.” A five–year–old was insignificant in Lucian’s
presence.
“Brother, wait for me!” Timmy scrambled down, clutching Serena’s hand.
The “irrelevant people were gone.Fletcher breathed a sigh of relief.Surely, this pleased Lucian.
Lucian then turned to Willow.“Let’s find somewhere else to eat.” The mess left behind by the James family had spoiled his appetite.
