Chapter 2
My hands trembled as I tried to open the comments.
“@Dancer Charlotte Edwards,do you have no shame?”
“@Dancer Charlotte Edwards, wow, your desperation to be a homewrecker is spilling off the screen.”
“@Dancer Charlotte Edwards, you filthy rat,get out of the dance world!”
Charles took my phone again. “Don’t look.”
I parted my lips in a daze. “Charles,is this what you wanted?”
He averted his gaze. “People forget scandals quickly. I’ll have someone guide the narrative. Just stay off your phone
for a while.”
I slowly shook my head,my vision blurring.
“Charles, you’ve ruined me.”
His expression remained unreadable. Only his irritated voice reached my ears.
“I told you I’d handle it. Why are you making a scene?”
“This wouldn’t have happened if you hadn’t acted recklessly in the first place.”
“Charlotte Edwards,get it straight
I threw you into this mess,it’s because you deserved it.”
A sharp ringing filled my ears. I let out a bitter laugh.
“Charles,let’s get a divorce.”
He chuckled, his voice indulgent yet dismissive..
“You’re just emotional right now. Go ahead, vent if you need to.”
He was certain I wouldn’t actually leave him, acting like some magnanimous benefactor tolerating my outburst.
In his laughter,I found an eerie sense of calm.
Just then,a doctor called out from across the room.
“Charlotte Edwards, come get your test results.”

Charles hesitated, then followed me. “What test results?”
“Charles,” a soft voice called from behind.
Olivia stood at the hospital room door, looking at him expectantly.
Charles immediately turned away from me and walked toward her.
“Olivia, why are you out here alone? Go back and lie down.”
Dragging my legs.numb from the pain,I walked in the exact opposite direction of him.
It felt like stepping on blades.
Every step cut through my flesh and bone.
Every step pierced my heart.
The doctor told me I had to rest for the next month–otherwise,I could forget about dancing ever again.
I took a cab home,facing the cold,empty house alone.
Because our marriage was a secret,Charles and I had separate residences. He deliberately chose the apartment right
above mine.
The first night after moving in,he had pinned me against the wall and kissed me.
“This way,I can sneak into your bed every night.”
He seemed to have an obsession with this kind of secret affair,a game of sneaking around.
I thought it was just a quirk hidden beneath his serious exterior.
I never realized that sneaking around was simply his nature.
Once he got tired of me,he fell for someone fresher–Olivia.
At nine in the evening,Charles arrived with a bag of fruit.
“Charlotte Edwards, I bought cherries for you. Want some now?”
I tossed my phone in front of him. The screen displayed Olivia’s latest Instagram post.
“I told him I wanted something sour and sweet like cherries, and he bought me these big ones instead. Lol.”
“Olivia didn’t want them,so now you’re giving them to me as charity?”
Charles frowned. “Don’t be like this…”
He stepped closer, wrapping an arm around my waist intimately. “Are you upset because we haven’t done it in a
while?”

I shoved him away and gagged dramatically right in front of him.
His expression darkened like a brewing storm. “Charlotte Edwards, that’s enough. Don’t be ungrateful.”
“What face have you even given me?” I clutched my chest, tears spilling uncontrollably. “Do you know how many calls I’ve gotten, cursing me out?”
“Do you know that every major dance company has blacklisted me? My career–ruined!”
“Charles, tell me, what did I do wrong?”
I was always soft–spoken, easy to push around.
Charles had once cupped my earlobe between his fingers, whispering tenderly,
“Charlotte Edwards, you’re so easy to bully. What would you do without me?”
I had never once considered that Charles would ever leave me.
Back then, when my parents took their own lives under the weight of accusations, everyone shunned me.
It was Charles who pulled me out of that hell.
He went against his family for me. I still remember how he knelt in the rain that night, refusing to yield.
He took me away from the place of my nightmares, giving me a fresh start in a new city.
Even when I was at my lowest, broken and humiliated,he had never let go of me.
Yet now, after all the suffering had passed,I was the one he abandoned.
“Let’s get a divorce.” I closed my eyes. “At least leave me some dignity.”
“…Charlotte Edwards.” He rubbed his temples, looking exhausted. “You’ve been insulted before. Why are you acting.
so dramatic?”
I snapped my eyes open, staring at him in disbelief.
“What did you just say?”
His lips pressed into a thin line, his face clouded. “When your parents killed themselves, the whole country was
cursing you…”
“Get out!” I grabbed a pillow and threw it at him, screaming like a madwoman. “Get out!”
