Broken Daydream) Chapter 6

I’d attended so many business events that the glitz and glamour weren’t
unfamiliar to me, but the scale of this one was unprecedented. Hudson chose a
private room, roughly 80 square meters. Dozens of affluent businessmen sat on
individual sofas, their small tables laden with fine wine and imported delicacies.
In the center of the room was a mirrored stage; a famous singer was performing
live. Waves of attractive women entered, serving the men.
Chloe sat beside Hudson, constantly glaring at any woman who approached
him. Luckily, Hudson wasn’t interested in them. I sat in a corner, observing. The
men were preoccupied with drinking and socializing, avoiding any business stuff.
If the town couldn’t attract businesses, the project would fail. Qingxi Town was
remote; only well–funded brands could afford to participate. Only with their
involvement would the Lei family invest.

One man, Mr. Wan, a leading figure among the brands, narrowed his
and said to Hudson, “Hudson, I was the one who helped your father get the land
in Qingxi town.” He chuckled, his voice booming.“To show gratitude, your
mother even raised a toast to me.” The room erupted in laughter. Another man,
Mr. Xia, reminisced about Hudson’s mother.“Your mother was a waitress at
Yuanji. But she was a stunner and countless men fell for her. Sadly, she stopped
socializing after your sister drowned.” Their tone was condescending and
disrespectful.
Hudson’s face darkened; the scar on his left cheek pulsed like a coiled viper.

business.“Gentlemen, if you invest in Qingxi Town, I guarantee one year of rent-
free occupancy.”
Mr. Wan swirled his wine glass, stating that he didn’t need the discount. He
then noticed Chloe. “Wow, aren’t you the famous natural beauty? You look more
stunning in person.”
Mr. Xia also stood up, observing her intently.“That’s true. You stole the
limelight from all the other women.”
Chloe didn’t understand the implications. She coyly tossed her hair; her
white dress made her look innocent. Mr. Wan gestured for the other women to
leave. His eyes were on Chloe. “Hudson, is she your girlfriend?”
Chloe’s face lit up, gazing expectantly at Hudson. He shook his head.
Mr. Wan sat next to Chloe.“I heard you were a professor. I have some
academic problems.” He put his arm around Chloe’s shoulders, his oily lips
almost kissing her.
Chloe, enraged, slapped him. “I’m Mr. Thorne’s secretary. Don’t touch me!”
It was not the first man to make a pass at her, but she believed that only Hudson,
wealthy and attractive, was worthy of her.
Mr. Wan exploded with rage. He immediately threatened Hudson. “If your
secretary doesn’t apologize, there’s no deal.” He leered at Chloe.“And I’ll decide

how she apologizes.”
