I subtly stepped back, maintaining a polite distance.“Mr. Thorne, I have my 

own plans. Being someone’s secret lover isn’t in it.” 

Hudson, thinking I was wavering, continued to offer enticements. 

“If I were your sister, would you want me to be a mistress?” I interrupted. 

Hudson froze, touching his left cheek. 

On my way home, I passed the hospital. Chloe texted, asking me to visit her- 

she had something important to say. Outside her room, I overheard nurses 

gossiping about the patient in room 24. They said she lived a lavish lifestyle but 

couldn’t afford her medical bills. 

I found Chloe watching the news, twirling her hair. Seeing me, she said 

gleefully, “Hudson and Lei Xin are together. How does that make you feel? Didn’t 

you say independent women were the most charming? You still can’t get Hudson.” 

I turned off the TV. Chloe pulled a small USB drive from under her pillow. 

“This is Madame Cat’s teaching videos; I’ll give them to you for free, but you 

have to pay my medical bills. This course costs 500,000 bucks. You’re really lucky.” 

Her seriousness made me laugh. She truly considered it a secret weapon.

“What’s so funny? I was just unlucky. Hudson is a psychopath. Some of my 

classmates didmarry rich men. It works.” 

Even now, Chloe still trusted Madame Cat. I shook my head, asking if she 

recognized the women we had met in that private room.“The three women Mr. 

Wan threw out were also Madame Cat’s students. You even posted a photo with 

them on Instagram.” 

I left the room. Chloe tried to get out of bed, but the pain stopped her. Her 

curses escalated. 

I continued to work with the Thornes, though Hudson rarely showed up. He 

was busy preparing for his wedding with Lei Xin. The wedding was two months 

but the media already hyped it as a lavish, once–in–a–lifetime event.

Though Deborah was only detained for half a month, the Thornes terrified 

her; she and Richard returned to their rural hometown. Chloe seemed to have 

gotten a lot of money, and resumed her online socialite lifestyle. 

I received an invitation to the wedding. On that day, I saw Mr. Wan, Mr. Xia, 

and the others from the private room. They were with their wives and children, 

looking kind and responsible. Surprisingly, Chloe was there too. She didn’t have 

an invitation and was stopped by security. 

“Tell Mr. Wan that it’s Chloe. He’ll let me in.” Chloe had given up dressing 

like a pure college girl; she dressed hot.

Security returned, telling her Mr. Wan didn’t know her. Cameras focused on 

her. She lost her composure and yelled, “How dare you say you don’t know me? 

You’ve forgotten what you did?!” A crowd gathered. Reporters kept asking what 

Mr. Wan had done. Chloe smirked. “If I tell you, he’ll go to jail.” 

Mr. Wan ordered security to get her out of here. In front of the rich, Chloe was unceremoniously dragged away. She must have threatened Mr. Wan with the recording from the private room to get money. Now that the money was spent, 

she was trying to extort him again.
