Chapter 5
“My love, there has been an emergency in the army, and I must step in immediately…“.
William hesitated, looking into my eyes as though silently asking for permission.
Yet, his body leaned anxiously toward the door, ready to bolt the moment I nodded.
I said nothing. Instead, I sank back into the bed and closed my eyes.
The next moment, William rushed out of the hospital room without even grabbing his jacket.
Dragging my weak body to the window, I watched as he climbed impatiently into a car.
Not long after, the vehicle began to shake violently.
It was obvious how intense the encounter inside must have been.
An hour later, the car finally stilled.
William stepped out, adjusting his tie. Then, a woman leaned out of the car, tugged at his tie, and kissed him passionately before letting him go.
Not long after, a message from Lucy appeared on my phone:
“Alpha was so wild today, tossing me around.”
“He didn’t wear protection and said he wanted me to have his pup–the future heir to the park:
“Face it, he doesn’t love you anymore! Leave him already and move on.”
I didn’t reply. Instead, I switched off my phone.
Her words didn’t provoke me. I was already prepared to leave.
Chapter 6
Tomorrow was the “key operation” William had mentioned–and also the day I’d disappear.
Yet, after I left, it was unclear whether William would make Lucy the next Luna or simply
discard her.
On the morning of the operation, William gently kissed my forehead.
“Baby, today is my last mission. Once this war is over, I’ll spend the rest of my life with you.”
I watched his car speed away, then turned and climbed to the rooftop.
Minutes later, a helicopter hovered above me.
“It’s not too late to change your mind. Caitlin, are you sure about this?”
Inside the cramped space of the helicopter, a tall man in sunglasses glanced at me.
Even through the lenses, his handsome face radiated confidence.
He leaned close as he fastened my seatbelt. “Are you really leaving your Alpha?”
I closed my eyes and replied calmly, “Mind your own business.”
He chuckled but quickly turned serious.
“This mission is risky. A healer like you should never be here, but we both know you’re the best person for the job. Once it’s done, you’ll be free.”
I nodded and prepared my parachute.
Lena, my wolf, and I infiltrated the enemy base smoothly.
But as I entered the command room, dread washed over me. Something was wrong.
The place, marked as safe in the reports, reeked of danger.
Before I could retreat, a sharp sting pierced my neck.
Chapter 5
As my vision blurred, I heard someone exclaim, “Finally! The legendary healer walked right into our trap. Alert the chief. We’ve captured her!”
Meanwhile, William stood in the army camp, unease gnawing at him.
“The intel seems too precise,” he murmured. “How did they know this much when our previous spies all failed?”
A calm, firm voice interrupted. “It was the healer. She risked her life to send us a signal.”
William turned to see Blair, Alpha of the Bloodwalker Pack.
Because their territories bordered each other, Blair’s pack had allied with William’s against the vampires roaming the borders.
Blair continued, “Today’s mission is to destroy the enemy base and rescue the healer. I’m personally requesting it.”
William smirked. “You seem quite attached to this healer.”
Blair replied without hesitation. “She means a lot to me. Surely Alpha William has someone. just as precious?”
William’s expression softened. “Yes, my Luna is my greatest treasure.”
Lucy scoffed. “That healer is greedy. She’s just trying to steal credit by showing up now.”
Before Blair could retort, William snapped, “Shut up! Without her, none of us would be
alive. Even I would’ve died countless times.”
Tears welled in Lucy’s eyes, but she fell silent.
THE
The warriors advanced swiftly through the night.
At the vampire base, William found the vampire leader barely alive, slumped beside a bound woman.
Her long hair obscured her face, but something about her seemed achingly familiar.
Chapter 5
Before William could think about it in detail, Lucy whimpered and covered her chest, having just been grazed by a stray bullet during the breakout.
“I’m hurt, Alpha. Help me first!”
Meanwhile, bound and bleeding. I struggled against my restraints.
When I saw William cradling Lucy and whispering soothing words, pain stabbed through my heart.
Worse than the heartache was the searing pain in my abdomen as blood trickled down my legs.
Lucy cried louder. “Alpha, I’m scared! Blow up the place and leave that healer behind. I’ll die if you delay!”
Someone
protested, “No! We need the rogue leader alive–and the healer too!”
But Lucy’s screams drowned out their voices.
William hesitated, then gave the fatal order.
“Lucy can’t wait. Set the bombs and blame the explosion on the rogue leader. Move quickly!”
Picking Lucy up, William turned his back on me.
As the bombs fell, the vampire leader laughed hysterically..
“Alpha William, you’ll know the pain of losing your true love!”
There was a pause in William’s departing footsteps, and he glanced back hesitantly.
The bomb exploded in the air, illuminating the bound woman.
For a fleeting moment, our eyes met.
1 looked at William and gave a rueful smile.
