Chapter 9
William tried to take my hand, but I coldly avoided it.
“From the moment you slept with Lucy, our love was over,” I said firmly.
Desperately, William explained, “Honey, I was tricked by her. Lucy was an undercover agent sent from across the border, and I fell for her lies…”
Unmoved, I replied, “So? That’s your excuse for betraying me?”
William’s breath hitched as he struggled to respond.
Finally, he said with difficulty, “Honey, I’m sorry. I’ll spend the rest of my life making it up to you, okay? Please, give me another chance.”
“I know you’re still grieving over the child we lost, but we can have another. I know you still
care for me–let’s start over.”
I sneered. “William, you’re right. I haven’t let go of you–but I haven’t forgiven you either. Do you know how you managed to find this place? I deliberately left clues, just so I could reject you face to face.”
His eyes reddened, and he lunged forward, wrapping his arms around me.
“No! I won’t let go!” he cried, his voice trembling. “You’re the only one I’ve ever loved! Lucy meant nothing to me..nothing!”
I struggled in his embrace, but he held me tighter.
Then, a trembling voice interrupted. “William… you’re so cruel!”
On the balcony stood Lucy, her face pale and furious, a gun shaking in her hands. Behind. her were several vampires, watching the scene unfold with predatory grins.
William immediately moved to shield me.

The vampire leader chuckled darkly.
“William, we owe you for this. If you hadn’t gone soft and let Lucy live, we’d never have
found Caitlin’s hideout.”
William froze, guilt flashing across his face.
I laughed bitterly. “So much for your undying love.”
“No, wife, you don’t understand!” William pleaded. “Lucy was in jail for the past six months. I only spared her so she wouldn’t die immediately. That’s all!”
Lucy’s lips curled into a twisted smile. Her voice trembled with rage as she raised the gun.
“William, I gave up everything for you. And this is how you repay me? You tried to kill me!”
Her aim wavered as her emotions consumed her, but the vampire leader growled
impatiently.
“Shoot already! The Bloodwalker Pack fighters will be here any moment. Didn’t you say you
wanted revenge?”
Lucy’s hands trembled as she turned the gun toward me.
“It’s your fault!” she screamed. “If it weren’t for you, William would have loved me!”
She pulled the trigger.
The gunshot echoed, but it wasn’t me or William who fell.
Lucy’s body crumpled to the ground, blood blooming from her chest.
An icy voice rang out. “Looks like I arrived just in time.”
Blake stepped into view, his gun still smoking.
cold gaze swept over the scene.
The vampire leader, panic evident on his face, glared at Blake. “How did you know we’d h
here?”

Blake smirked. “We’ve been waiting for this moment. The day you escaped, we planted
rumors to draw you out.”
William turned to me, his expression a mix of shock and betrayal. “You’ve been working
with him all this time? Watching me suffer?”
I met his gaze calmly.
“You… how could you be so heartless?” he whispered.
I didn’t hold back my disdain. “Heartless? Your lover is lying dead on the floor, and you
dare to question me?”
The vampire leader laughed maniacally, drawing our attention. He opened his coat to reveal a bomb strapped to his chest.
“Let’s all go down together!” he roared.
Blake’s eyes widened as he lunged toward me, but he was too far away.
The explosion ripped through the air, shattering everything in its path.
Pain wracked my body, and my ears rang as I struggled to stay conscious.
In my blurred vision, I saw William shift into his wolf form, using his body to shield me.
from the worst of the blast.
He let out a mournful howl, blood dripping from his wounds.
“Caitlin,” he whispered hoarsely, “I finally protected you.”
His voice cracked as he added, “Forgive me… In our next life, let me atone.”
With those words, he collapsed.
Blake reached me, his face etched with worry. He checked me over, his hands trembling.
I shook my head to indicate I was fine, though my ears still rang.

William… had he said something?
The villa was reduced to rubble, and the vampirese lay lifeless. Emergency teams rushed in,
carrying me away on a stretcher.
Blake stayed by my side, gripping my hand tightly. His voice cracked as he whispered, “You have to live, Caitlin. I can’t lose you.’
Under the influence of tinnitus, I didn’t hear what Blake said and just nodded
subconsciously.
In the hospital, When I was in the coma, I dreamed of William’s proposal..
He was so full of love that he brought the canister ring on my finger and made a promise to
be faithful to me for the rest of my life.
But that was a long time ago.
A month later, the werewolf council declared our campaign against the vampires a resounding success.
Blake and I were hailed as heroes.
William, despite his critical role, refused public recognition.
He claimed he was still recovering, but I knew the truth. He was drowning in his grief.
At the victory celebration, Blake stepped onto the podium.
With all eyes on him, he pulled out a moonstone ring.
Kneeling before me, he said, “From now on, you are my life.”

Tears filled my eyes as I extended my hand.
The rest of my life stretched before me, and with Blake by my side, I was ready to embrace
