Chapter 8
His warm fingertip gently brushed away the thick layer of foundation on my cheek.
Beneath the foundation, there was an ugly scar.
My nerves tightened in an instant.
Instinctively, I wanted to pull away from his hand.
“Are you that concerned about what others think?”
His gaze, light with a hint of a smile, locked onto my face.
I awkwardly shifted to the side.
With a swift motion, he pulled me back to the center of the seat.
“Don’t lean against the car door, it’s dangerous.”
I instinctively looked up at him.
The distance between us was so close that our breaths mingled, and the air was filled with a charged, intimate tension.
My face slowly reddened, reaching all the way to my ears.
He wiped away the thick foundation from my cheek with a wet wipe, his voice soft and indulgent.
“North, when you’re with me, there’s no need to hold back.”
“I’m human, I like beauty, but being my wife doesn’t mean you have to be beautiful.”
“I love five–star chef’s fried rice, but I love homemade cooking even more, especially when I’m eating with my family. Do you understand?”
I stared at him, astonished.
It was hard to imagine someone as high and mighty as him would say something like that just to
accommodate me.
The tension in my heart slowly began to ease.

But I couldn’t help but mumble under my breath, “But I care.”
After all, who would want to face the world with a disfigured face?
He suddenly smiled.
“If you care, then when the time comes, I’ll go with you to get the scar treated.”
I nodded.

I had originally thought Gray just wanted to take me out for a simple meal.
as
After all, he didn’t make me put on makeup or wear something nicer.
But when he led me into the city’s most luxurious revolving restaurant, and I saw two familiar faces in the private room, I realized there were others here as well.
I instinctively wanted to leave the room.
But Gray gently grasped my wrist.
He looked down at me with a smile.
“Didn’t you say you wanted to hear Green call you ‘Aunt?”
“”
He actually remembered what I said out of frustration?
I glanced at the two people sitting upright in the room, smiling awkwardly.
“Actually, it’s not that I really want to hear it.”
“Since we’re here, let’s just hear it once.”
He tightened his grip on my hand and gently pulled me into his arms.
At that moment, the two people in the room happened to notice him.
Green immediately stood up, dragging Ryan along from the sofa, and respectfully greeted Gray.
“Hello, Uncle.”
Probably because they were too scared to meet Gray’s eyes, neither of them noticed me.

When Ryan sow me, his expression froze instantly.
Green finally saw me too
Her pretty face stiffened for a moment before she sneered,
“North? What are you doing here? Don’t tell me you’ve come to chase after Ryan again? You really think this place is somewhere someone like you, a lowly street vendor, can be?”
After saying that, she turned to Gray.
But her words faltered when she saw the cold indifference in his eyes.
“U Uncle, I’m sorry, I… I didn’t know this woman was the one you were bringing here, I’ll get her out
right now.”
She shot Ryan a look.
“What are you standing there for? Hurry up and get rid of her!”
Ryan understood the signal and quickly came toward me.
But when he saw my hand tightly held by Gray, he froze.
“North…”
He looked at me as if he had seen a ghost.
I straightened my back and smiled faintly at him.
Mr. Lewis, long time no see.”
“North, are you shameless? Will you flirt with any man you can find?”

Ryan’s jealousy flared up, looking like a child who had lost his toy.
He rushed forward to grab me.
But as soon as he stretched out his hand, Gray grabbed it mid–air.
“Mr. Lewis, I see you no longer value your position if you’re daring enough to lay a hand on my
wife.”
Gray’s voice was cold as icc.
