hapter 9
As he spoke, he twisted his wrist, forcing Ryan’s arm into an unnatural angle.
Ryan yelped in pain, his face contorting.
Cold sweat appeared on his forehead.
Green quickly stepped forward to plead on his behalf.
“I’m sorry, Uncle, we didn’t know that North was the woman you wanted to bring here with us. We
gally didn’t know.”
She shot me a vicious glare, but for self–preservation, she had no choice but to smile and beg.
“Aunt, I’m sorry, we were wrong. Please forgive us.”
Looking at the pale faces of these scum, I couldn’t help but remember how I had been abandoned at the engagement ceremony.
I had endured the cold stares.
Swallowed all the insults.
And walked out of that ridiculous circle in a blood–stained wedding dress, dragging it because it didn’t even fit properly.
What they were enduring now was nothing compared to what I had gone through.
I looked up at Gray, and our gazes met. I saw his doting eyes.
The message was clear.
Whether or not these two were humiliated, it depended on me.
“Honey, let him go.”
I smiled lightly.
“After all, they’re going to be family. It’s better to keep things harmonious.”
Gray finally let go.
A Love Left Behind: Embracing a Better Future
Ryan was freed.
But his expression was as dark as ever.
Although the Lewis family wasn’t the richest in the city, they were well–off.
Ryan had grown up pampered by those around him.
He had never experienced this kind of humiliation.
Green, of course, was the same. But as a member of the Nelson family, she depended on Gray’s goodwill for survival.
Even though she was annoyed, she could only force a smile and say, “Uncle, Aunt, let me pay for this meal. It’s my way of apologizing for today.”
Gray looked down at me, his tone indulgent. “Do you want to eat, my dear?”
“I do, but I don’t want to eat with these outsiders.”
“We’ll eat by ourselves, then?”
“Okay.”
I obediently responded.
Gray looked at the two people in front of us, their expressions all too clear.
“Can’t you understand? Your aunt doesn’t want to eat with you.”
Green bit her lip and forced a smile.
“Uncle, that land in the West City…”
“If you want it, I’ll give it to you, as a dowry from me and your aunt.”
Green was overjoyed.
She clung to Ryan’s arm and shook it with excitement.
“Ryan, did you hear? Uncle and Aunt are giving us the land! Quickly thank them!”
Afterward, she turned to us.
A Love Left Behind Embracing a Better Future
Thank you, Uncle and Aunt. When Ryan and I get married, we’ll definitely show our gratitude to
Ryan looked at me.
Finally unable to hold back the humiliation, he snorted and turned to leave.
Green awkwardly smiled at us before quickly following him out.
The private room instantly fell silent.
I watched the direction in which they left.
he pent–up frustration in my heart finally dissipated.
But it didn’t feel as satisfying as I had imagined.
Years of emotional investment.
And in the end, it all came down to mutual revenge. Who could really be called the winner?
If I could turn back time…
I would rather never have met Ryan.
“What are you thinking about?”
When Gray asked that question, I had already sat down at the dining table.
The table was filled with delicacies.
Each dish was exquisite, and each one was something I loved.
I looked up at him in surprise.
Our eyes locked at that moment.
He was wearing a simple white shirt and black trousers. It was nothing extraordinary.
But under the glow of the chandelier above us, he seemed to shine, like a fleck of snow at the peak a mountain–beautiful, untouchable, and radiating a noble, dazzling light.
This man’s looks were truly blinding.
A Love Left Behind: Embracing a Better Future
It only made me feel even more self conscious about my scarred face.
But how could someone like him be so attentive to me?
“What’s wrong?”
He smiled, touching his face.
“Is there something on my face?”
I quickly averted my gaze, flustered.
“No, I was just curious. How did you know I liked these dishes?”
He had even ordered the rare mugwort cake.
“You’re my wife. Isn’t it normal to know what you like?”
He picked up a piece of shrimp with cheese and placed it in my
bowl.
“Try it, see if you like the taste.”
I felt a little guilty.
