Chapter 11
“North, I didn’t expect you to climb the social ladder so quickly. How much is he paying you a month? Is it really worth you debasing yourself like this?”
Slap!
I gave him a harsh slap across the face.
“Ryan, you know exactly how you’ve hurt me and betrayed my feelings over the past five years.”
We’re broken up now, and I don’t want to dwell on it anymore. So please, watch your words!”
“As for my relationship with Gray, it’s none of your business.”
I shoved him away.
He grabbed my wrist and yanked me back.
He stared at me coldly, though his tone softened slightly.
“He’s not someone you should be messing with, and he can’t possibly be sincere with you. Leave him and come back to me. I’ll give you whatever you want.”
“Oh really? Whatever I want?”
I looked at him skeptically.

“Then, can I have the position of Mrs. Lewis? Will you give it to me right away?”
His expression faltered for a moment, hesitating.
That’s right.
This is Ryan for you.
He’s always treated me like a backup, someone to call when needed and toss aside when done.
Green is the woman he’s always wanted to marry.
I smiled.

“What’s the matter? Not willing? But you know, the thing you refuse to give me, Gray, who I can never hope to climb up to, gave to me without hesitation.”
1 pulled out the red book from my bag and slapped it down on the table in front of him.
“Ryan, you can now call me ‘Auntie
“Also, my husband gets jealous easily and doesn’t like others eyeing his wife. For the sake of the Lewis family and your beautiful and kind hearted Green, I suggest you show some self–restraint.”
Ryan flipped open the red book and saw the contents.
His face instantly turned pale.
Just earlier in the restaurant, he thought I was merely trying to climb up in the world, but he never expected I had actually married into a wealthy family.
Men are like this.
What they don’t want, they push into the mud.
How could I end up with a life better than his?

He trembled as he held the red book, his eyes glaring at me.
“Tell me, this isn’t real.”
“It’s real.”
I snatched the red book back, “Ryan, there’s more than just you in this world. I’m not the type of person to only crawl to you.”
“When I loved you, I treated you like a treasure, fawning over you all day. When I didn’t love you, you were just some weed by the roadside, not even worth a second glance.”
“So now, are you going to be Gray’s lapdog?”
He pinched my chin with his long fingers, his tone heavy.
“You really do have the nature of a lapdog, don’t you?”
es, I’m Gray’s lapdog. What are you going to do about it?”

tried to push him away, but he held me tighter, his tall body pressing against mine.
His brows furrowed in defiance. “If you’re going to be a lapdog, why not come back and be mine? You’ve been licking at me for years.”
“Ryan, let me tell you why.”
I didn’t know if it was the pain on my chin or the bitterness in my heart, but tears started falling onto
his hand.
“That day, you made me wear an ill–fitting wedding dress and left me covered in blood at the
gagement ceremony to be mocked.
My father and brother were framed by Green and thrown into jail.
I needed fifty thousand, so I went to your villa for help. But when Green threw five hundred bucks in my face, you were upstairs calling her to bathe together…”
“What did you say?”
He frowned, looking at me. “What did Green do?”
“What Green did isn’t the point. If you hadn’t been so indifferent, she wouldn’t have dared to do anything to me.”
“Ryan, do you see my face? Don’t you feel a little ashamed?”
He looked at the scars on my face.
His attitude softened.
“Sorry, North, I… I was out of my mind that day. That’s why I left you at the engagement ceremony.
“Okay, I’ll accept your apology.”
