Chapter 14
My best friend saw me trying to leave and pulled me back, whispering,
“North, look at the campus queen, the department beauty, and all the other girls trying to get Mr. Nelson’s attention. Aren’t you worried he’ll be snatched away?”
“A man who can be snatched away isn’t worth keeping.”
I took one last glance at the distinguished man surrounded by girls.
had lost count of how many times I had felt my heart skip a beat.
After all, who wouldn’t want such a handsome and high–status man all to themselves?
“Madam, aren’t you going to introduce me to your classmates?”
Gray suddenly spoke to me.
My body stiffened slightly.
With all eyes on us, he slowly walked toward me, holding a bouquet of white roses, and gently
handed them to me.
“Madam, congratulations on your graduation.”
”
”
I stood still, hearing the murmurs around us, some of which seemed intentional, some not.
“Wasn’t she Ryan’s lapdog? When did she become Mr. Nelson’s wife?”
“I don’t know. All I can say is she’s very clever.”
“As long as you have thick enough skin, there’s no man’s bed you can’t climb into.”
”
See?
I told you I didn’t like the spotlight.

Gray’s long arm swept around me, and then I turned toward the group of jealous, resentful girls. He was well–mannered, speaking gently with politeness,
“Classmates, I’ve secretly loved North for fifteen years and waited for her for fifteen years. After all this time, I finally managed to marry her. Please don’t scare her off,”
he said, his tone calm and reassuring.
“Fifteen years?” The crowd gasped. “How is that even possible?”
“As long as it’s worth it, anything is possible,” Gray said, lowering his head to look at me, who was so embarrassed I could’ve dug a hole and crawled in.
moment of silence fell over the scene.
One of the girls, deliberately spiteful, spoke up again. “But she was with Ryan for five years, doing everything she could to please him.”
“Yes, she pleasured Ryan for five years, and I’ve been doing the same for her for fifteen. We’re a
perfect match of loyal fools,”
Gray replied, still smiling, but with a hint of sharpness in his expression.
The girls, though still unconvinced, didn’t dare speak any further.
Gray didn’t seem interested in talking to them any longer. He turned his attention back to me,
lowering his voice as he asked, “Are you done with the photos?”
I nodded vigorously. Even if the photos weren’t finished, I didn’t want to continue.
“Would you mind taking one with me?” he asked, his voice warm and inviting.
“Huh?” I looked up at him, captivated by the depth of his gaze, softened by the sunlight that made his features seem almost otherworldly.
“I’d like to take a photo with my wife. Would that be alright?”
How could I say no? My best friend, ever so perceptive, quickly lifted her camera and took several
shots in a row.
After the photos were taken, Gray and I left the school together in the car.
Gray said he was taking me home for dinner.

Seeing my nervousness, he added quickly, “Don’t worry, it’s my house, not the Nelson family estate.”
Only then did I feel a little relieved.
By the time we arrived at Gray’s private villa, dinner was already prepared.
He specifically asked the servants to leave.
Then he poured two glasses of red wine and handed one to me.
“North, congratulations on your graduation.”
I gazed at him beneath the crystal chandelier, his handsome face glowing with tenderness.
“Thank you, Mr. Nelson, for standing up for me back at the school,” I said with gratitude.
He smiled lightly.
“You’re my wife. If I don’t protect you, should I protect them?”
“Well, you didn’t have to degrade yourself to defend me like that.”
“Huh? Did I?”
“All that talk about waiting for me for fifteen years, being a loyal fool for fifteen years, saying we’re both just big loyal fools–no one would believe that.”
“How do you know it’s a lie?”
“Isn’t it?”
Gray’s gaze lingered on me, his eyes slowly deepening with emotion.
After a long pause, he finally spoke.
“North, do you really not remember me at all?”
