Chapter 23
After several rounds of provocation, seeing Jeff remain calm, Tyler Horton became enraged.
He halted his car in the middle of the road, blocking the narrow pass, then stepped out.
“Looks like he insists on a showdown.” Jeff pulled over and took off his seatbelt. “I’ll go
umor him.”
“Hey, you!” I called after him, concerned.
“Lock the car,” Jeff said, removing his glasses and placing them on the seat. He gave me a slight smile. “Your husband’s got some good moves. Let me show you.”
With that, he stepped out and approached Tyler Horton.
Tyler pulled a gleaming golf club from his trunk, his face twisted with malice, “Jeff Vince, you’ve left me no escape. Don’t blame me for having no mercy now.”
He raised the club high, swinging it towards Jeff’s head.
My heart clenched.
But Jeff swiftly stepped back, easily avoiding the metal club’s deadly arc.
Missing, Tyler lunged forward and swung again, only to be dodged once more.
This time, Tyler didn’t immediately charge again. He turned his head, glaring at me through the bulletproof glass, voice icy, “Elizabeth, just you wait.”
I met his stare without fear.
Turning back to Jeff, Tyler swung the club several more times, failing each attempt.
Enraged, he simply hurled the entire club at Jeff with all his might.
The club clanged harshly on the pavement and tumbled down the mountainside.
Jeff removed his suit jacket and loosened two buttons at his collar, “You couldn’t hit me

even with a club. Now it’s my turn.”
Jeff Vince charged at Tyler Horton, delivering a swift kick to his abdomen.
Tyler staggered backward and fell hard to the ground, glaring viciously as he struggled to stand.
Jeff took two quick steps forward and knocked him down with another punch, then another.
ach blow was clean, precise, and powerful.
Tyler tried frantically to dodge, but Jeff’s fists found their mark, leaving Tyler rolling on the ground.
Jeff straightened up and brushed off his hands.
“With that scrawny dog physique, and you thought you could go full artial arts on me?”
Tyler curled up on his side, speechless.
Just then, a fierce wind rose, and the light drizzle turned into a heavy downpour.
The sky darkened. Jeff had no interest in staying longer.
He grabbed Tyler’s arm, hauling him up, “Hey, move your car. A good dog doesn’t block the
road.”
It seemed Tyler had been beaten into submission. He obediently went back to his car.
Jeff tapped on our car window. I unlocked the door, and he climbed in and started the
engine.
For some reason, watching the rainwater streaming down the windshield made my heart
pound.
“Jeff, I feel uneasy…‘
”
He put on his glasses and squeezed my hand. “It’s fine. We’re going home now.”
The wipers silently swept left and right, but each time they cleared the glass, it was blurred

About ten meters ahead, Tyler Horton’s taillights came into view. Jeff also started our car
As Jeff released the brake and we began to roll forward, Tyler didn’t drive off. Instead, he turned his car around in place, revved the engine, and charged straight toward us!
Seeing the glaring headlights rushing closer, my heart sank, my mind went blank.
Arr’s expression tightened; he swiftly shifted gears and turned the wheel. Our car reversed
just in time to avoid collision.
But now, we were forced closer to the outer edge of the mountain road.
Any further back, we’d tumble down the slope.
Seeing his chance, Tyler floored his reverse, planning to ram us off the cliff!
Luckily, there were still a few meters between us. At the same moment, Jeff hit the

I gripped the overhead handle tightly.
The rain battered the windshield like pellets, then rolled off in streams.
Jeff remained calm and composed, hugging the inside lane against the mountain.
Tyler, with his high beams on, swerved wildly behind us, relentlessly pursuing.
“A cornered mad dog indeed.”
After a sharp turn, Tyler, driving like a maniac, grazed the outer edge of the mountain, not slowing at all.
My heart was in my throat, tension so high I couldn’t utter a word, staring straight ahead.
Then came another series of downhill slopes.
Tyler kept trying to overtake and ram us.

Suddenly, a loud horn blared urgently from up ahead.
Two tall headlights flooded the road with bright light- a heavy truck!
On instinct, Jeff hugged the car close to the mountain’s inner side.
On my side, the window screeched as it scraped against the rocky wall.
The truck driver also tried desperately to brake.
Then came a thunderous crash.
