Chapter 3
I don’t know how long it had been, but the sound ceased in the study.
I walked back to the bedroom, closed the door, and took a shower numbly. Then I wrapped myself in
the blanket.
Not long after, there came a shaking sound from the study just a wall away.
As if on purpose, their antics in the latter half of the night were all against the wall, making noise. throughout the night, until it finally came to an end just before dawn.
I kept my eyes open until dawn, and there was no moment I wished more than this, to go back to at time when I couldn’t hear anything.
When the door opened, Elliana was holding a shrimp ready to feed it to the man’s mouth.
She saw me, didn’t stop her actions, and her eyes were filled with a triumphant provocation.
Axel suddenly kicked the chair and stood up, “Honey, wake up.”
He held my hand and calmly wrote on the note paper in front of the table, “Elliana came specially in the morning to deliver the documents to me. I saw that she came in a hurry without having breakfast, so I asked her to stay and have breakfast together.”
I nodded and sat down at the table.
Perhaps it was my pale complexion that made Axel feel a bit guilty. He squeezed my hand and said, “Our third anniversary is in a week. How about celebrating it and then going on a vacation to Aflon, my dear?”
I looked at the words on the note, with Elliana’s unabashed laughter ringing in my ears.
I knew what she was laughing about. A week ago, on the day my hearing recovered, I called Axel, who was on a business trip to Aflon.
What followed, however, was a moment of ambiguous entanglement.
The sound lasted for a full half hour before it was finally cut off.
Half an hour later, Axel sent a message, “Honey, do you miss your husband? I specifically said, ‘I love you‘ for half an hour, did you hear it in your heart, honey?”
He did say “I love you” for half an hour, but the recipient was not me.
But it was not with him that she fought fiercely and couldn’t let go, but with Elliana.
The first time I found out that the man who had always been gentle and steady in front of me could say so many rough and crude words of love.

I lowered my gaze, and my tongue felt bitter.
“Mr. Sweeney, did you go to Aflon and book the same couple’s suite as last time?”
“The beds in that room were all messed up by you, and I don’t know if the new beds the boss
replaced are hard enough.”
“Shut up ” Av
“Shut up,” Axel glanced at me, seeing my lack of expression, and exchanged a flirtatious look with Elliana, “Believe it or not, I’ll take care of you right away.”
Elliana blinked her eyes and said, “I don’t believe it, you used two boxes last night.”
Axel stood up abruptly and said, “Wait for me in the garage.”
Then he quickly wrote, “Darling, there’s an urgent matter at the company, I have to go first. Take your time eating, I will arrange the flight tickets and hotel for you, don’t worry.”
He picked up the warm milk on the table and handed it to me, typing a line of words on his phone, “Here, drink the milk first, it will cool down later.”
I pursed my lips, my eyes welling up with tears, “I didn’t want to drink today.”
He handed it to me with a smile, patiently writing down word by word, “Be good, don’t act childish, you must drink.”
He forcefully fed me until the cup was empty, and then left satisfied.
In less than a minute, a text message popped up.
Elliana, “Mrs. Sweeney, in the study drawer, Mr. Sweeney left a gift for you.”
I looked for a few seconds, got up and walked to the study, pulled open the drawer, and inside was a red velvet box.
With a gentle touch, the box popped open, and in an instant, numerous used family planning products fell out.
The news came in on time, “Exactly 520, it’s the record of me and Mr. Sweeney being together for
years, oh, it’s a gift for our third wedding anniversary.”

I stood frozen in place, everything before my eyes turned dark, and my stomach churned violently.
I rushed into the toilet, vomited until I felt completely exhausted, tears streaming down my face before I finally collapsed.
The professor’s message came in on the phone.
I picked it up and opened it.
“Meredith, the research institute is very pleased that you could join this project. A car will come to

When I joined the confidential research institute, my identity and personal information would be
concealed.
Meredith could no longer be found in this world.
A week later, exactly on the third anniversary, ending on such a meaningful day, let this be the gift I give to Axel.
