Chapter 7
Five years later.
“The project has finally been successfully completed. Everyone has worked hard over the past five
years.”
As soon as the professor finished speaking, cheers erupted in the laboratory.
The success of this confidential project would greatly contribute to the advancement of the
country’s scientific research.
Everyone’s face was filled with a relieved sense of pride.
When I was packing up to leave, the professor called me.
I turned my head to look at him, confused.
He pursed his lips and hesitated before speaking, “Meredith, these past five years, you have been
immersed in the laboratory, oblivious to the outside world. The Sweeney Group has been exposed for numerous illegal activities, resulting in a significant drop in stock prices. They went bankrupt last year.”
The professor looked at me calmly and sighed, “Axel has been looking for you all these years. Although our research institute is hidden, he was relentless. In order to find out your whereabouts,
he resorted to some extreme measures and ended up being imprisoned for six months. He was just
released last month.”
I was stunned and somewhat surprised.
The professor expressed concern, “The laboratory project has already ended, and this place will
also be disbanded. When you go back, be careful.”
A big hand suddenly grabbed my shoulder, “Professor, rest assured, I will protect Meredith.”
I looked at the person in surprise, and my mood, which had just been shattered by the professor’s words, instantly recovered a lot.
“How did you come here? Weren’t you supposed to come back in another half month?”
Samuel Holden pinched my cheeks and said, “No matter how big the matter is, it is not bigger than my girlfriend.”
The professor looked at both of us with satisfaction and said, “You went through a long journey, but in the end, you ended up together. This is fate, cherish it.”
Samuel nodded, “I will, thank you, professor.”
As I watched his serious profile, a blush crept onto my cheeks.-

Samuel and I used to be technical personnel at Fluica Research Institute. Beyond friendship, before becoming lovers, he was suddenly dispatched to Gluonia.
That year, the Gluonia war was frequent. He was afraid of burdening me, so he resolutely chose to
end the budding affection.
I found it difficult to accept and experienced mental issues, so I had no choice but to quit the
research institute.
It was also at that time when I encountered Axel, who was persistent and relentless.
He forcefully and dominantly barged into my life, giving me a grand and passionate love.
But the beauty of the dazzling fireworks cannot compare to the mess of ashes left behind after they
are extinguished.
We started with great fanfare, and ended in great embarrassment.
After following the professor to the research institute, I saw Samuel again.
I couldn’t describe my feelings at that time.
Sourness, grievance, and a trace of embarrassment and inferiority.
He simply brushed aside my hair that was covering my face and gently tapped my forehead.
“What? Just because you got married, you don’t like me anymore?”
I burst into tears instantly.
We came together smoothly and naturally.
For five years in the laboratory, we were not only intimate lovers but also comrades in arms.
He was a special technician and had the freedom to enter and exit the laboratory.
We left a month in advance, just to prepare for our wedding.
As we walked out of the laboratory, discussing where to go for our honeymoon, Axel’s figure suddenly appeared in sight.
His face was withered, thin as a skeleton, and a few strands of white hair could still be seen.
As soon as he saw me, he hurriedly rushed over, but Samuel calmly blocked him a few steps away.
His eyes were red, and his voice came out with a sob, “Honey…”
I felt nauseous.
Samuel, however, laughed, his eyes turning cold, “Mr. Sweeney, Meredith is my wife. I hope you understand the reality and stop calling her so disgustingly.”

The two words “wife” struck Axel’s already fragile nerves, and he was on the verge of collapse. His eyes were bloodshot, and he swung his fist in anger.
Samuel didn’t hide because I was standing right behind him.
But he didn’t just take the beating quietly, he fought back.
He used to exercise all year round, and his physique was far from being as thin as Axel, who had been in prison for six months.
