Chapter 17
“Get yourself a girlfriend and show him how great life is with a partner Matthew hinted, nudging Christopher.
Christopher placed the breakfast he had brought in front of Matthew. “If Marty gets a girlfriend, are you going to take over Is job?”
“Yes!” Surprisingly. Mathew agreed immediately. As Marty was touched, Matthew continued, T’ll handle it, but it’s not gonna happen. Marty, if you find a girlfriend, I’ll ask Christopher to give you more free time. No more weekend overtimes. for you at least. I might even slip you a hefty bonus. Let him hit some extra hands to ease your burden.”
Tears welled up in Marty’s eyes at once.
“And we’re upping your salary too. Matthew added.
“Words of wisdom. Mr. Matthew Sanchez! Marty was deeply moved and pledged his loyalty. “It’s time for Mr. Christopher Sanchez to think about finding a partner at this age. Don’t worry, Mr. Matthew Sanchez, I’ll endorse the perks of marriage and get him ready for the nuptial zone soon.
That’s good! See Marty’s enlightenment? Christopher, you are just being stubborn: Matthew scolded Christopher while commending Marty.
Just as Marty was basking in the praise….
Christopher spoke up. “Marty, there’s a project in Afrya that needs your help.
Marty panicked. “I didn’t mean that, Mr. Christopher Sanchez
“Get your bags packed, and you’re leaving tomorrow, Christopher continued.
“Mr. Christopher Sanchez?” Marty shot a desperate look at Matthew hurriedly.
Matthew “saved” Marty easily by saying, “Marty, I want you to come chat with me after work every day
“Mr. Christopher Sanchez, please… Mr. Matthew Sanchez said… Marty pleaded.
Just then, the doorknob turned, and a disheveled Sonia sneakily pushed the door open. “Mr. Matthew Sanchez, it’s me.”
As she entered, she noticed the others and quickly fixing her appearance. “Mr. Christopher Sanchez, Mr. Strutt, here so carly?”
It wasn’t even eight in the morning, and technically, no visits were allowed at this hour. Sonia probably used her old work badge to sneak past security, taking the fire escape to avoid cameras, slipping in unnoticed.
“Who let you in?” Christopher had let her go due to Clifford’s intervention yesterday. But he didn’t expect her to be so bold to open the ward door without permission.
“Please give me another chance!” Sonia bent down deeply. “I don’t want to leave this field. Please let me return to work at this hospital. Mr. Matthew Sanchez, please consider the advice I once gave you about your condition, and the fact that I used to be your doctor” She thought that she had worked hard, at the very least, and that deserved some credit.
Is she getting booted from the industry?” Matthew asked Marty
“Yeah, your situation went worse yesterday, yet she didn’t take action but even entertained the thought of ending your life prematurely. Ms. Yvonne Owens, who operated on you yesterday, confirmed her as unfit to be a doctor. Once Mr. Franklin got wind of her misconduct, he promptly expelled her from the Industry Marty shot daggers at Sonia.
“That wretched girl went out of her way to cause trouble for me and sully my reputation in front of Mr. Franklin. Mr.

Matthew Sanchez. In innocent. I’ve always done my utmost for your condition. You should remember that… Sonia insisted.
Christopher’s expression darkened, exuding an aura of displeasure.
Marty couldn’t fathom how Sonia was still trying to distort the truth and smear Yvonne at this stage. Did she seriously think everyone was clueless about what went down yesterday! “Ms. Richfield, you better think before you talk or act!” Marty frowned, offering a word of caution.
Yesterday, Sonia was the one pushing for the sedative and heartfelaxer, and now she was trying to blame Ms. Yvonne Owens, the hero who saved Matthew’s life, yet here she is branding Ms. Yvonne Owens as a retched girl, Marty thought i
“All the Richfield family members are banned from entering Betrico, Matthew lying in bed suddenly spoke up. “Send her
Sonia came seeking forgiveness, oblivious to the fact that her actions would have repercussions for the entire family. “Mr. Matthew Sanchez, I don’t know where I went wrong to make you angry. Just because of a misunderstanding from yesterday? I can explain…” She clung to the bedpost, refusing to leave.
“Hmph! You have no right to speak to me.” Matthew seethed.
If you won’t forgive me today, then I’ll just end it here, Sonia shouted.
Then go ahead.” Matthew was unfazed. “Marty, hand her the knife.”
Marty grabbed a fruit knife from the table and tossed it in front of Sonia.
Sonia trembled. She only wanted to scare Matthew and never intended to end her own life. Seeing his cold stance, she could only weep. “My family is poor, and I’m the sole child. I’ve been the beacon of hope for my family since childhood. My dream is to be a life–saving doctor.
Matthew erupted “A doctor? What gives you the right to practice medicine? Despite lying in bed yesterday, I heard your chats. It was you who insisted on using the sedative and heart relaxer Yvonne clearly warned that it would be fatal, but you persisted.”
“…” Sonia was stunned, struggling to conjure an explanation but failed.
Matthew continued, “Yvonne mentioned that using those meds would only offer a half an hour of clarity. It was only by luck that she happened to pass by and operate on me. Otherwise, I’d be dead by now. It’s already a kindness to kick you out of the industry and your whole family out of Betrico. You should have appreciation. Yvonne was correct. Even calling you a mediocre doctor would be too generous. You don’t even compare to a teenage girl.”
Sonia’s complexion blanched, looking utterly dread–stricken. “Mr. Matthew Sanchez
“Marty, get rid of all those who backed Sonia in using those med yesterday and attempted to pin the blame on Yvonne They’re not cut out to be doctors. Matthew eyed Sonia. “Still standing there? Want me to chuck you out?”
“Mr. Matthew Sanchez, you’re not fully recovered yet. Keep calm, please.” Marty turned to Sonia, questioning coldly, “Ms. Richfield, are you not capable of understanding plain speech?”
Realizing there was no way out, Sonia muttered an apology meekly before departing in a disinal state.
