Ada glared at Yvonne with disdain. “Raising you all these years, we’ve done our duty by you. This necklace is for Muriel. Don’t even think about grabbing it. Before I call the cops, you better get outta here quick!”
“Mom!” Muriel interjected anxiously. “Yvonne’s birth parents are out of work, her five brothers to marry off at home, plus a sickly grandma. Selling this necklace could help her out. She needs it more than I do.”
The considerate gesture from Muriel deeply moved the servants, who admired silently, “She’s truly kind!”
“Mom, since you gave me this necklace, I have the right to decide its fate.” Muriel snatched the necklace back from Ada and presented it to Yvonne. “Here, take it. I don’t blame you for stealing it. It was supposed to be yours anyway.”
Yvonne lifted her gaze, her long lashes revealing a curious gleam beneath. ‘Accusing me of theft again? This pretentious wretch only knows such few tricks?
Yvonne. I’ll handle Mom. You go! Muriel’s tone turned urgent
Yvonne‘ lips curled up slightly, her charming eyes piercing.
Muriel was a bit scared by Yvonne’s demeanor–casual, yet authoritative, like a queen on her pedestal, leaving Muriel feeling
uneasy.
Yvonne took the necklace and gave a small smile. The cheap ruby fell short of her standards, lacking in color, clarity, and cut. What shoddy factory produced this trash? 30 grands? Worthless.
Just when everyone expected Yvonne to keep the necklace, without any hesitation, she tossed it into the trash can.
Everyone gaped in disbelief. Even Ada was taken aback for a moment before erupting in anger. “Yvonne, what on earth are you doing? That’s Muriel’s most treasured necklace. She offered it to you generously, and you just tossed it away?”
Yvonne raised an eyebrow casually. “She gave it to me, so I have the right to handle it. By the way, I haven’t taken anything. provided by you all these years. A simple necklace didn’t impress her in the least.
“As for the clothes on me and the items in my bag, I bought them myself,” she added.
A servant sneered. “You bought them yourself? Your money isn’t it from Mr. and Mrs. White?”
Where my money comes from is none of your concern, Yvonne shot back.
“You!” The servant seethed with anger.
Just focus on your duties. Be a good servant,” Yvonne said coldly
The servant was thoroughly annoyed but couldn’t do much about it.
“Alright,” Zachary interjected, trying to calm the tension. “Yvonne, it’s time. Let me walk you out
“No need, Mr. White, Yvonne used the formal title to create distance.
Ada sneered coldly. She’s always had it easy, clueless about real–life struggles outside. Now she’s in a hurry to build walls. -She shouldn’t expect our sympathy when she tries to return.
“Mr. White, should we check her bag? It seemed quite full,” the persistent servant reminded Zachary
“Enough” Zachary was the wealthiest man in Wintertown. Even if Yvonne had stolen something, he wouldn’t stoop to conducting bag checks or the like. That was beneath his dignity

Chapter 2
Yvonne strode out of the mansion with her backpack, spotting a black car waiting by the gate. It bore visible signs of recent collisions–the rear bumper was crooked, the body dented, and the windshield cracked.
The driver, Luke, stepped out looking a bit disheveled with his broken glasses. However, when he saw Yvonne, he paused. She was stunning, with delicate features and a charm reminiscent of her mother, Cherry Lynch in her prime. Still, Yvonne exuded a more authoritative presence, even more captivating.
Luke hurried over to Yvonne, offering a sincere apology. Ti sorry, Ms. Lynch, I got rear–ended by a truck out of nowhere and hit a railing. I was worried it might delay your schedule, so I didn’t return home to switch cars. But I’ve checked, and the car is fine, though it doesn’t look great
“Wasn’t it said that my folks were dirt poor, back in the sticks? How could they own a car? If I’m not mistaken, it’s a Rolls- Royce Phantom, a custom gem worth millions, Yvonne thought playfully while asking, “Ms. Lynch?”
Yep, you’re the only lady of the Lynch family, with five brothers ahead of you, Luke quickly added, “Oh, I forgot to introduce myself. I’m Luke, the family driver.”
A designated driver? Seems my real kin aren’t as financially strained as the White family has portrayed, Yvonne pondered.
“Where’s your luggage. Ms. Lynch?” Luke realized Yvonne had only a single bag and asked, baffled. “They inside? Want me to grab em for ya?”
“No need. I’ve got everything I need right here, Yvonne replied casually. There weren’t many personal items of hers in the White residence.
Luke nodded. “Alright, please wait in the car for me. I’ll take the gift for Mr. and Mrs. White inside and thank them be went to open the rear car door for Yvonne, it fell off due to the earlier truck collision.
