Chapter 41
Yvonne had barely stepped into her room when her phone pinged with a message. [Someone’s searching for “Henry“. They’ve got a tough case, so they really need “Henry” to check it out.”
With her slender fingers, Yvonne replied: [Too swamped, no can do.] With Monday looming, she had to swing by the company her dad had handed her. Skip it, and her folks would start the money transfer dance again.
Her phone buzzed again with another message. [The client’s throwing money around, says name your price, just find Henry.] The message flew out, but by then, Yvotne was offline.
She hit the shower, and as she was slipping into her clothes, her phone jangled. An odd number flashed on the screen, yet she answered it like it was no big deal.
“Boss. Zachary’s made us lose a bundle. What an idiot. This time, it’s a cool hundred million dollars. I’m telling you, I’d go to his place and ask what is going on in his head. He wanted to dive into some investments. I hinted at it several times. He could have made money easily. But what did he do? He lost it all and took us down with him. At this rate, you’ll be visiting my grave. I’m really pissed off,” Devin, Yvonne’s loyal sidekick for three years, fumed.
Yvonne’s hand slowed in drying her hair, mulling over the hundred million dollar loss. Zachary’s really stepped in it this time. How many times has he lost money like this?‘ she thought
“Boss, you and that numbskull aren’t even related. Let’s just end all deals, shall we? Let’s keep the cash for ourselves instead of throwing it at a loser. What has the White family ever done for you? You’ve put up with enough snide looks and disrespect. You’ve repaid Sienna’s kindness tenfold, treating her illness, shipping the White family all those formulas, bailing Zachary out of his messes, and making them the top dogs in Wintertown. We’re square. Can we just stop bailing them out?
“Okay,” Yvonne said, casually tossing her hair with a towel She’d been toying with this idea for a while. From here on, it was her and the White family going their own ways. No more mix–ups.
“If it weren’t for your say–so, your sub–companies wouldn’t have teamed up with him in the first place. Now, without our backing, let’s see how he crashes and burns, Devin said, a hint of a smirk in his voice.
With Zachary’s head for business, he’d not only lose his crown as Wintertown’s richest guy but might just go broke.
Yvonne didn’t want to hash over the fool any longer, so she casually dried her hair. “Ill send you a pin, swing by and fetch something
“No problem. Your call is my command, no matter the odds, Devin pledged, his loyalty rock–solid. As he spoke, he caught the discontented gaze of someone next to him and had to pass on the message. “Boss, Irving’s missing you. He wants to drop by and see you, 100.”
Yvonne let out a sigh. “Fine.”
It wasn’t long before they made their way to Lake Mansion, climbing over the wall so smoothly that they didn’t raise any alarms from security.
“Came in over the wall,”
ll, Yvonne said, not wanting to scare anyone in the house.
“Copy that,” the two figures replied, leaping over the wall and soon standing quietly in front of Yvonne.
“Boss, we missed you,” Devin said with a smile.
Devin and Irving were blown away to learn that Yvonne’s real dad was Yosef, the country’s number one rich guy for twelve years running. They never imagined they’d be chilling in the house of the richest family in the nation, a place decked out in luxury. They knew Yvonne had found her family, but they had no clue she’d hit the genetic lottery like this.”
“Hit up the bank tomorrow,” Yvonne said, handing them a check

Devin and Irving shared a look and then quickly checked out the check, wondering if it was for real..
“A blank check from the Sanchez Group? Boss, where’d you pull this off? Devin asked, his eyes as wide as saucers. “Your didn’t, uh, snatch it, did you?”
Irving kicked him. “What are you saying? Boss isn’t about to take what isn’t hers. She’d walk past a dropped buck without a second glance. Boss, spill it, did you, uh, steal it?”
“Will you cut the crap?” Devin gave Irving a playful shove. “Our Boss? With her integrity, with her cleverness, she’s not about
to steal.”
Yvonne, with her stunning looks–a soft pretty face and eyes that twinkled with mischief–waited for them to stop arguing before she casually said, “You’ll know it’s real when you cash it. Write in 100 million dollars for me. Yvonne figured she shouldn’t go overboard, so just a modest sum would do.
At that. Devin gently put the check down, saying. “Boss, I don’t dare. This is a check from the Sanchez Group. If Christopher finds out, he’ll have my hide. If the check was phony, he’d be in a world of hurt.
Yvonne gave him a sidelong glance, thinking. Ha, such a scaredy–cat
“Boss, where’d this thing really come from?” Irving held up the check, checking it under the light and feeling it was real no matter how he looked at it
Yvonne gave a casual shrug, saying, “It’s a windfall”
“A windfall,” Devin muttered, tossing a playful frown her way. “Why am I not that lucky?”
Yvonne shot him a sideways glance. “You sure you could grasp the opportunity?”
“Bring it on,” Devin boasted. T’m ready to expand any opportunity”
“I operated on Mr. Matthew Sanchez’s heart. Yvonne let si
slip, her tone as cool as a queen surveying her kingdom.
Devin and Irving stared, too shocked for words. ‘She’s got guts, taking a job like that, they thought, but they kept their thoughts under wraps.
“Boss, you went all out for our pay. Irving and I owe you big. Tomorrow, I’ll cash this check and get the bank to transfer it 19. your account. Then you can pay us. Perfect,” Devin said, already counting his money in his head happily. The paychecks were just a day away. It was music to their ears.
“Boss. you remembered our pay. You rock,” Irving gushed, almost choking up. “I was this close to going broke.”
“Boss, charging 100 million dollars for a surgery, isn’t that steep Devin turned the check over in his hands, a bit uneasy. “What if they think it’s too much and skip you for future ops? You won’t be making a fortune then.
“No ordinary doctor can compare to our boss.” Irving snatched a pen, scribbling 100 million dollars on the check. “Boss, any more surgeries in the Sanchez family? Old, weak, sick, or expecting–100 million dollars per person, and ten folks is 1 billion dollars. Money for nothing. And maybe a bonus bump for me and Devin this month?”
