Chapter 8
For a whole week, news about the Kane family dominated New York.
It started with exposing Ryder Kane’s true identity as New York’s golden boy.
Even when Old Mr. Kane stepped in to calm things down, it was useless–the paparazzi weren’t backing down. Clearly someone powerful was backing them up.
They threw evidence right in their faces.
The Kane family was humiliated, and Old Mr. Kane lost all face.
After all, the heir he’d spent over twenty years carefully grooming turned out to be some bastard from who knows
where!
The real Ryder Kane had already vanished without a trace.
Right at this moment, Jasper Reed completely changed his usual approach, using ruthless tactics to crush Kane Corporation.
In just a few days, he swallowed up thirty percent of the Kane family’s assets, and he wasn’t stopping there.
By now everyone knew it was because Ryder Kane had crossed Jasper Reed’s newlywed wife, Ivy Winters.
All because of one woman–billions in losses, shrinking assets, their top–tier elite status hanging by a thread.
This sent Old Mr. Kane straight to the ICU.
Spitting blood, he still demanded that Ryder Kane divorce Mia Sterling, then go to the Reed family to apologize and
make amends.
Ryder Kane already wanted to win back Ivy Winters, but he still hadn’t considered divorcing Mia Sterling.
After all, Mia had only lied about her medical condition.
He’d been swamped with work all week and hadn’t had time to figure out what was really going on.
Until he calculated when Mia would be discharged from the hospital, planning to send her abroad to lay low.
But just before opening the door, he heard Mia talking to someone.
Something made him freeze and listen.
Mia was on the phone with someone, her voice sickeningly sweet and cloying.
“Baby, you’re totally misunderstanding me. I was forced to marry Ryder Kane–who told him to be New York’s golden boy, right?”

“Don’t worry, he’s useless now anyway. Once I cash out, I’ll come find you.”
“Hehe, I’ll just dump this mess on my dear sister Ivy. Wouldn’t be the first time.”
She made kissing sounds into the phone before hanging up.
Her expression instantly changed as she kicked over a chair.
“Only I deserve the good life! Last time I could pull off a fake marriage, take Jasper Reed’s money and fake my death
to go abroad. This time I can make sure Ivy Winters doesn’t get her happy ending either!”
“Ryder Kane’s not even a real man–wanting both women. Dream on, asshole! I’m only in it for the money!”
After drinking the last dose of medicine, Jasper Reed’s condition finally improved.
Seeing him frown from the bitter taste of the herbal medicine, I quickly placed a candy in his palm.
But I saw his long lashes flutter like raven feathers as he leaned closer to me.
Somehow, even the medicine’s bitter taste seemed to turn sweet.
“The medicine’s so bitter.”
“Then eat the candy,” I blinked, not understanding what he meant.
He rested his head on my shoulder.
“That’s not what I meant…”
Jasper Reed sighed softly.
“We’ve been together all these days, and you still don’t remember me.”
I was still confused.
“Aren’t you my dad’s sworn brother?”
Jasper Reed’s eyes looked wounded.
“I’m only five years older than you–how could I be his sworn brother? I’m your grandfather’s adopted son.”
“You definitely don’t remember. When you were ten, you went out with that bastard Ryder Kane and broke your leg. I was the one who took care of you for months.”
“And you had the nerve to lie in bed calling me ‘Brother Ryder‘ every day…”
I was shocked.
Having lived this life over again, my childhood memories were already fuzzy.

Now thinking back, I realized that during the time I was recovering from my broken leg, the person by my side really wasn’t Ryder Kane.
Then why didn’t Ryder Kane refuse when I gave him gifts later?
Lost in thought, I didn’t notice Jasper Reed’s arm circling around my waist, getting closer and closer.
“Jasper Reed, get your filthy hands off Ivy!”
snapped back to reality and looked over to see Ryder Kane looking haggard, fury blazing in his eyes.
Jasper Reed was even more arrogant, pulling me close as he walked to where only a railing separated him from Ryder.
“Be smart and get lost, or I can’t guarantee I won’t leak your second secret to the media.”
Ryder Kane’s whole body shook as he clenched his fists and pounded the iron railing until his knuckles bled.
“You’re despicable and shameless!”
Jasper Reed sneered.
Ryder Kane’s eyes reddened as his lips trembled, looking at me.
“Ivy, I know everything Mia Sterling did. I was wrong.”
“You don’t have to marry me, but you absolutely have to divorce Jasper Reed! If he can dig up dirt to destroy me, he could destroy you too if you ever fight!”
He stared intently at my face, not missing the slightest change in expression.
But then he heard me laugh softly.
The laughter grew louder and louder.
I wiped away the tears from laughing so hard.
“Sorry, but I’m the one who leaked your dirt.”
