Chapter 5
1 flipped the ticket over so she could see the destination–three thousand miles away.
Lena’s brow furrowed.
“Why are you going so far all of a sudden?”
“And you didn’t even tell me. What if something happened?”
I shrugged.
“It’s just a normal job transfer. Nothing to make a big deal out of.”
She grabbed my wrist, clearly not buying it.
“So suddenly? We just finished a project together.”
“You’re just gonna walk away?”
I gently pried her fingers off and stepped back.
“The project’s basically done. I handed it off to my partner.”
“I’ve got other work to do.”
That small step backward… it hurt her.
Lena’s eyes clouded with confusion.
Her hand trembled in the air, like she wanted to reach out but didn’t dare.
She asked in a quiet voice,
“When are you coming back?”
I shook my head and smiled.
“I’m not.”
The sadness completely overtook her face.
She stared at me, stunned, wanting to hold on but not knowing how.
Like a dog that just got abandoned.
Afraid to come closer.
Panicked, she bolted out the door.

A minute later, she came back with a massive bouquet obroka
Nine hundred and ninety–nine.
The kind of love she never gave me over while we were together,
She field the flower’s out to me.
“Ryan, I’ve got everything reatly for the wedding. This weekend. Don’t go, please,”
“You’ve always wanted this, right? The big day? I promise I’ll be there this time,”
I looked at the bouquet, and remembered when we first got married.
I asked her for just one rose.
She said no.
Later, I found out from her diary that in her mind, roses were only for the one she truly loved…
And now here she was…
Giving me more roses than I could count.
But I didn’t feel anything.
No joy. No excitement.
Just peace.
I took the bouquet.
Walked straight to the trash can by the door.
And threw it in.
Lena’s smile fell in an instant.
I thought I’d feel satisfied.
Vindicated.
But I didn’t.
Truth is, I stopped caring about how she felt a long time ago.
“Ryan-” she called my name.
But whatever she wanted to say, the words never came.
Maybe she knew they wouldn’t change anything.

4 wheeled my suitcase out the door.
Everything that belonged to me was packed inside.
Lena looked around the house–
Empty, Lifeless.
Just like a showroom with no soul.
She finally noticed the one thing that didn’t fit.
She grabbed my suitcase in panic.
“You really… you’re really not coming back?”
I took my suitcase back one last time.
No hesitation.
“Why would I come back, Lena?”
“We’re already divorced.”
