Chapter 9
What happened back then?”
Lucas stood there stone cold, his eyes fixed on my mother and Sophia.
Lucas, thank god you’re finally here!”
“I was so scared–1 got trapped in that elevator and my claustrophobia kicked in again…”
“I thought I was back in that horrible year, I thought I’d never see you
and the three kids again.”
Sophia wrapped her arms tightly around Lucas’s waist, trying to change the s
But Lucas roughly pushed her away and repeated coldly.
“Are you two hiding something from me?”
Sophia’s body trembled with fear.
My mother, still being held by the nurse, went rigid and suddenly rolled her eyes back and fainted.
Seeing things going south, Sophia immediately joined my mother’s performance. She clutched her belly and cried out in pain.
“Lucas, my stomach hurts so bad!”
“Maybe something’s wrong with our baby?!”
But Lucas didn’t even glance at her.
He walked straight toward me and dropped to one knee.
His eyes were red around the edges.
“Giselle, tell me–you were the one from back then, right?”
His body was trembling slightly as he spoke.
I smiled and didn’t deny it.
“Yes, it was me.”
“But I wish I’d never met you.”
Twenty years ago, there was a massive kidnapping at the international private academy.
Lucas and I were trapped in two metal containers side by side.
For five whole days.
We encouraged each other through those metal walls, supporting each other through that nightmare.
When the police burst in, I was thrown into the sea with the box by the kidnappers, all to buy him time to survive.
When I woke up again, I’d forgotten everything
By the time I remembered it all, he’d already become my brother–in–law.
I kept that secret buried deep in my heart,
Two years ago, we had a one–night stand.
I didn’t want to get tangled up in the past, so I never told Lucas.

– Lucas gave her all the love and guilt he’d carried for years, and because of her, he hurt me over and over again.
But none of that matters anyanore.
Asingle tear slid down my left check.
Lucas, we’re completely done.”
The nurse stepped forward at just the right moment and wheeled me away.
As the elevator doors slowly closed, Lucas suddenly grabbed Sophia by the throat.
The three boys were crying, trying to squeeze into the elevator,
But the doors shut completely, sealing everything away.
Three days later, I was discharged from the hospital.
During those three days, my mother and Sophia sent me countless text messages.
Starting with insults, then eventually begging me to ask Lucas to let them go.
I treated them like jokes and barely glanced at them.
Meanwhile, Lucas came with his three boys every single da
But I turned them away every time.
Word spread throughout the hospital that those four really cared about me.
And I was so ungrateful.
I just smiled and didn’t bother explaining.
Sometimes being misunderstood is just normal.
Explaining would only waste too much energy and emotion.
So I didn’t want to explain–I just wanted to cut ties with them completely and get back to being myself.
Today, it would all be over.
I walked out of the hospital with my phone and sent Lucas a text.
I told him we were going to file for divorce today, and I also needed to pick up my belongings from the mansion.
I figured Lucas would drag his feet and make a scene, but he actually agreed without any hassle.
I got into the black Maybach and we drove toward the mansion.
When I walked into the mansion, I found it eerily quiet.
What are Lucas and his three boys trying to pull now?
I frowned, about to say something.
Suddenly Mrs. Martha came running out with a fawning expression.
“Oh, you’re home, ma’am?”
“Sir and the three young masters have been waiting for you for ages.”
As she spoke, she led me into an empty room on the first floor of the mansion.
Something was off about her expression, and her smile looked unnatural.
I walked into the room and was completely shocked by what I saw.
