Chapter 91

Ten minutes later, Chris followed Stephanie into the studio. He took a quick glance around and could immediately tell that the studio had been around for quite some time.
Looking around, he estimated there were at least several dozen people.
For a studio, that wasn’t small at all.
‘I didn’t expect Stephanie to have this kind of power behind the scenes. More than two million dollars in profit a year. That’s a huge amount, Chris thought. And she was only in her twenties.
Jennifer poured Chris a cup of coffee, and sensing the tense atmosphere between the two, she quickly excused herself and
left.
Now it was just Stephanie and Chris. She crossed her arms and stared at him.
Chris spoke up, his tone firm. “Shut down the studio.”
“What?” Stephanie replied, clearly surprised.
“End things with that man,” Chris said, his voice even more resolute.
“What do you mean?” Stephanie asked, completely confused as she looked at him.
Chris repeated. ‘I mean exactly what I said. Neither the Ashford family nor the Hart family needs you out there in the spotlight.”
“Shut down the studio? Supported by you all? You’re offering me 6 thousand dollars a month? Wow, that’s generous.” Stephanie mocked him.
That 6 thousand dollars might have been enough to live on in a small town, but in Long Harbor, where space was limited and everything was expensive, it barely covered basic living expenses. It wasn’t even close to living comfortably.
Chris, already frustrated, lit a cigarette. “Don’t compare yourself to Olivia. What’s going on between us has nothing to do with her.”
“Whether it does or doesn’t matter isn’t important. It never really did,” Stephanie said.
Doesn’t matter? What’s she trying to say? Does she mean our broken engagement had nothing to do with Olivia?‘ Chris‘ mind raced as he wondered.
This thought made his head feel like it was going to explode right now.
He bit his lip, his eyes narrowing at Stephanie, the intensity in his gaze almost like he was about to devour her. “I’ll marry you. You’ll be my wife.”
For a moment, Stephanie was stunned. Wait? Did he just get slapped a couple of times, and now he’s lost his mind?‘ she wondered.
“Marry me?” she asked, unsure if she had heard him correctly.
“Isn’t that what you’ve always wanted?” Chris shot back, his voice unwavering. In that instant, Chris threw eve aside.

There was only one thought running through his mind. I will marry Stephanie. I have to marry her. Nothing can stand in the way of that.

Stephanie hissed a breath, clearly thrown off. “I thought you came up here to talk to me about Olivia
Marry me? Is he out of his mind?‘ Chris blinked, momentarily stunned as she thought.
Chris froze for a moment, his breath becoming unsteady.
Then, in a flash, he realized what had just happened. ‘Right. I came here to talk to her about Olivia, he wondered. Macro and Allison were critical to Olivia’s treatment, but only Stephanie could decide whether they would be involved. Chris‘ grip on the cigarette tightened. “What will it take for you to agree to let Macro and Allison join the medical team?” Stephanie smiled ans wondered, ‘Now we’re getting to the point!
She took a sip from the glass in front of her and said, “You’ve been threatening me this whole time, so what’s this about?”
Chris froze for a second.
Upon hearing her words, his eyes narrowed, and he took a long drag from his cigarette.
He knew she was bringing up old grievances now.
Stephanie continued, “You’ve cut off my financial support and tried to make it impossible for me to get a job. Let me guess. If you don’t get what you want from me today, your next move will be to use this studio to threaten me, right?”
