Chapter 42 I Know What’s Best for My Team
“First Kill!”
The announcement rang out across the arena, instantly silencing the crowd.
Then, a sudden burst of cheering exploded.
The commentators‘ voices buzzed with excitement. “Perfect control! It’s under a minute in. That’s the fastest first kill ever recorded in the league!”
Another added, “Coincidence? Not at all. GOD’s new mid–laner is seriously intimidating.”
Sydney stared at the screen, her face going pale. Azalea!
I’ve been killed once so early on. Sydney could almost hear the fans tearing her apart.
She took a deep breath. It’s okay. This is just the beginning. As long as I win this match, I’ll still be remembered as the first female champion in Glory League history.
“Sorry, my bad.” Sydney shifted her tone and apologized into the mic.
If it had been anyone else, Anexis would be yelling insult’s over comms by now, but with Sydney, even though they were frustrated, they held back out of respect and even threw in some support.
The jungler said, “Play it safe. Don’t give them any more chances.”
But it was already too late.
Falling behind early, Wylie wasn’t about to miss an opportunity. With the mid–laner and support, they confidently pushed into the enemy jungle.
A perfect start!
Knowing the enemy’s moves inside and out, and using her own strengths, Azalea played like she had x–ray vision, constantly giving her team crucial info. Sometimes her teammates didn’t even realize what was going on until they’d already won another fight.
If this wasn’t a pro tournament, some might have thought Phoenix was cheating.
Across the map, Sydney faced Azalea’s relentless attack without mercy. Ten minutes in, Azalea had already killed Sydney eight times.
With the momentum on their side, Anexis was crushed under the pressure.
The Anexis team had never been this thoroughly beaten in their pro careers. The jungler’s frustration boiled over. “Are you kidding me? Ten minutes in and we’re already retreating. You gave their mid–laner eight kills! Didn’t I tell you to play safe?”
Sydney’s calm broke too. She wasn’t bad–she had her moments during practice–but she hadn’t expected Azalea to be this strong. Compared to her, Sydney felt like a noob.
Her teammates lost patience, ignoring her status as a privileged heiress, and started yelling at her on

comms. “How can you two be so different when you’re sisters?”
“Phoenix’s the boss’s sister too, right? Why don’t we have her on our team?”
Complaints and compliments flew everywhere. The Larks had always coddled Sydney, but this was the first time she’d been called out so harshly. It stung.
Fuming, Sydney snapped back, “Is it all my fault? Did you all play perfectly? I was constantly camped in the mid–lane by their jungle and support. Why didn’t support give me vision? Why didn’t anyone help me?”
If she’d stayed quiet, it might’ve been better. But after she spoke up, the captain jungler exploded with anger. “Who do you think you are? If you hadn’t fed their mid–laner so badly early on, do you think we’d be falling apart? And what about that dragon fight at ten minutes? Were you sleepwalking? Should I remind you how you got in?”
Sydney’s face twisted with anger. She ripped off her headset.
The broadcast director, loving the drama, cut the camera from GOD’s celebration to this heated argument.
The audience was shocked.
“What’s going on with Anexis? Are they seriously fighting on stage? Are they quitting?”
“How did this Lark even get on Anexis? They’re playing like trash!”
“Phoenix plays quite well, though.”
“Please, she’s just lucky to have picked up Petal’s old spot.”–
Azalea’s plays in the last round were impressive. The commentators had been left speechless more than once, wondering how she pulled off those moves.
But some still said it was just dumb luck.
The coach had already called for a substitution.
In the stands, Bastian watched Sydney’s tantrum with growing irritation. She came to compete and make friends, but instead, she’d already made plenty of enemies.
How could she throw a tantrum after sucking so badly at the game?
Azalea wouldn’t act like this if she were in her shoes. No matter how unfair things got, she’d put the team first and swallow her pride.
Matthias wasn’t paying attention to the game at all. All he saw was Sydney getting roasted.
His face darkened as he glared at Bastian. “Those are your players? They blame Sydney just because sl lost one game?
“That’s the jungler, right? Fire that guy after the match for trash–talking Sydney.”
Bastian almost thought he had misheard. Does he know what he’s talking about? Just one game? This is the finals!

Does he have any idea how many so–called prodigies never get to win even one championship?
And now he is talking about kicking the team captain out just because of Sydney?
Holding back his anger, Bastian forced his voice steady. “Matthias, I know what’s best for my team.
