While the Romanov family didn’t explicitly state Sydney had bribed them, anyone with sense could guess the Larks‘ involvement. Why else would this family slander Azalea instead of supporting her?
Even Ivy’s accusations about Azalea’s poor character now seemed highly questionable.
The counterattack proved unexpectedly effective, largely thanks to Bastian’s public statement.
When told about this, Azalea merely smiled indifferently. If Bastian wants to do these self–gratifying gestures, what does that have to do with me?
She had more pressing matters to attend.
In Wisteria, Hubert stood poised in crisp athletic wear, his back muscles taut as he executed a perfect golf swing–a hole in one.
“Elia, your phone’s ringing. It’s from your country… Don’t tell me it’s your secret lover calling?” joked a blond, blue–eyed man in a posh Wisteria accent, waving Hubert’s phone at him.
Hubert accepted the device, seeing Carla’s name. “Aidan, it’s just our housekeeper.”
Aidan Montgomery, heir to the Montgomery family, was handsome and charismatic. His family’s business empire spanned multiple sectors, but they dominated the new media and digital tech world.
“I was just quietly mourning my hopelessly smitten sister. At least it’s a false alarm,” Aidan shrugged, gesturing toward a girl nearby. The blonde, dressed in frills under a dainty parasol, looked like a porcelain doll. “Elia, are you sure you won’t consider her? I swear she’s the top debutante in all of Wisteria high society.”
Hubert didn’t even glance in her direction, even though that burning gaze had been locked on him since the moment he arrived at the course.
“Compared to greenhouse–cultivated roses, I’ve always preferred wildflowers clinging to cliffs,” He offered an unapologetic smile. “Now if you’ll excuse me.”
He walked away, phone in hand, and called Carla back.
The moment Hubert left, the “porcelain doll” floated over to pout at her brother. “What did Elia say?”
Aidan sighed helplessly. He really had tried his best for his sister’s happiness.
“Isla, I suspect something–or someone in Genova has captured his attention.” As a man, he’d noticed Hubert’s subtle reaction to the “loyer” jest.
On the call, Carla asked if Hubert planned to return soon, briefly updating him about Azalea’s recent troubles.
“That hardly warrants my return. She handled it splendidly, didn’t she?
“I won’t be going back just yet. Please just help keep an eye on things for me.” He didn’t deny it—he had

The memory of that accidental kiss resurfaced in Hubert’s mind. Although he rationally knew it had been nothing more than a drunken mishap, the memory had replayed itself over and over in his dreams.
Until he could properly sort through his conflicting emotions toward “Lea,” returning to Draywick simply wasn’t an option.
“But Ms. Azalea is packing her things to move out of Ashbourne Villa this very minute!” Carla stood downstairs, casting worried glances upward. It was nearly dark, and Azalea had returned and calmly. announced she’d found a new place and was moving out. Nothing Carla said could change her mind.
Hubert had specifically asked Carla to take good care of her before he left. Now, seeing things get out of hand, she had no choice but to call him.
The words “moving out” struck Hubert like a physical blow, momentarily short–circuiting his thoughts. She’s leaving?
Logically, he’d always known her stay at the Lennox estate was temporary. But this abrupt departure–was it because of that night when she got drunk?
The realization hit him like a freight train: She’s avoiding me too.
That was the only reason he could think of.
He couldn’t sit still. He’d just said he wasn’t going back, but that promise didn’t last even a minute. He hung up and immediately messaged Levi, “Book me the earliest flight back to Genova tomorrow.”
He was already furious at Hex. Wasn’t that guy supposed to keep an eye on her? How did he not report that she was about to move out?
If Hex–currently stationed in Draywick–had heard that, he would’ve cried out injustice. His orders had been to ensure Azalea’s safety. Moving apartments wasn’t in the job description.
Carla ultimately couldn’t stop Azalea from leaving. Truthfully, Azalea was rushing because, yes, she wanted to avoid Hubert.
Something about him just felt… off.
If she really thought about it, there hadn’t been much of a connection to begin with. Even their first encounter had been completely random.
Now that she had achieved what she set out to do–securing the Lennoxes’s investment and shares–there was no way Hubert would personally stay involved in the project. Someone else from the company would definitely be put in charge.
Keeping her distance from him wouldn’t affect anything.
The apartment she rented was in a high–end complex, fully furnished and move–in ready.
As for Sydney, that situation was more or less wrapped up. The officials, seeing which way the tide was turning, promptly released a statement confirming that Team GOD had not violated any rules during the
