Chapter 298
There was a pause.
Then Maggie said, calmly and honestly, “Not at all.”
And she meant it.
She really didn’t mind.
It wasn’t about business. And with Isabella in the picture, completely cutting ties with Franklin just wasn’t realistic.
Madam Wilson heard the quiet certainty in her voice. Maggie had let go.
Once a person truly lets go, dining with an ex doesn’t feel like a scene–it just feels like… logistics.
The call ended.
Back at the office, Maggie turned on her laptop and noticed an email from Kawitt Smith.
He was asking if she’d ever been to Country A. Said if she wanted to visit, he could show her around–be her personal guide. Said he’d introduce her to top–tier players in the industry and shared some cutting–edge research directions the giants over there were working on.
The email sounded like a friendly travel invite.
But she knew better.
This was a recruitment pitch in disguise.
He was dangling prestige, opportunity, and insider access.
She replied politely: no plans to travel abroad in the near future.
Then she logged out.
That evening.
After work, Maggie headed to the restaurant Madam Wilson had reserved.
She arrived to find the old lady already there.
The moment she sat down, the door swung open and Isabella came bursting in.
“Mommy!”

Maggie barely had time to react before she was being hugged by a very excited little girl.
Nanny Sara followed close behind–bui Franklin was nowhere in sight.
Once they were settled, Madam Wilson handed the menu over. “Maggie, you and Isabella pick the dishes.”
Then she gave a light scoff. “Called Franklin this morning. Said he was too busy to make it. Hmph. Like we’re all dying to see him.”
Maggie gave a small smile and simply nodded. “Mm.”
After dinner, Isabella went home with Maggie.
That night, Maggie received a call from Ryan Gibson, inviting her and Johnny to play golf the next morning.
She agreed.
However, when she saw the address Ryan sent over, she paused for a moment.
It was a golf course owned by the Wilson family.
She had been there before.

Still, since she had already accepted the invitation, it wouldn’t be appropriate to back out now.
Early Saturday morning, she drove out as planned..
When she and Johnny arrived at the golf course, Ryan, Reed, and Jordan were already there.
Seeing them arrive, Ryan smiled and said, “You’re here?”
“Mm,” Maggie nodded.
Ryan asked, “Do you know how to play golf?”
“I’ve learned a bit,” she replied.
After a few pleasantries, they began playing while chatting casually.
A–while later, just as Maggie was putting her club away, she noticed two people approaching from a distance.
It was Franklin and Julia.
Usually, for these kinds of outings, Franklin and Julia would also bring Harry and Levi along. But today, it was just
the two of them.
They had heard from the staff that Ryan was here, and came by hoping to say hello.

Júlia hadn’t expected to see Maggie and Johnny as well.
Franklin skipped over them and went straight to greet Ryan “Uncle Gibson.”
Ryan, who had been close with Felix Wilson in the past, smiled. “Franklin, huh? Out here golfing this early?”
“Yeah, just getting some fresh air.”
Reed and Jordan both knew the golf course belonged to the Wilson family. Though they occasionally played here themselves, they rarely ran into Franklin.
It was ironic that they’d bump into him today–when Maggie happened to be here.
They were well aware of Maggie and Franklin’s history. But since Maggie didn’t seem fazed by his presence, they
relaxed.
Johnny, however, was clearly displeased.
While Franklin exchanged a few polite words with Ryan, neither Maggie nor Johnny spoke.
Still, Franklin took the initiative to greet Johnny.
Johnny responded with obvious reluctance.
Ryan chuckled and changed the subject. “So, how’s the collaboration between Cole and Wilson Tech going?”
Johnny shrugged slightly. “It’s still early. We’re working through the adjustment period.”
Franklin smiled. “I thought things were going quite smoothly. If Wilson Tech has fallen short in any way, I’d appreciate your guidance, Mr. Gray.”
Johnny replied flatly, “The rest of Wilson Tech has been fine. It’s just that Mr. Wilson tends to blur the lines between business and personal matters. That’s caused some issues in our cooperation… I’m sure you understand what I
mean, right?”
Franklin understood.
So did Julia.
