Professor Liam’s assistant didn’t realize that Maggie, like Johnny, was also a student of Nolan.
When Professor Liam mentioned that Johnny gained an advantage by working with Maggie, the assistant responded,
“Last night, in an interview, Mr. Gray said that as a student of Mr. Nolan, he was held to very strict standards. Mr. Nolan constantly pushed him to stay on top of new developments in the field and to thoroughly understand every technical breakthrough. Based on his research progress, Mr. Nolan would help him refine and perfect the weak points.”
“Miss Miller is already highly capable on her own. Now that she’s working with Mr. Gray, she can benefit from his mentorship. She’s bound to grow even faster because of it.”
“So, working with Mr. Gray should be a good thing for her.”
That made sense-
But…
A PhD student brought by Professor Mark paused after hearing this and asked,
“So you’re saying that the points Miss Miller just presented were largely a synthesis of Mr. Gray and Mr. Nolan’s
research?”
In other words, Maggie wasn’t nearly as impressive as they had thought.
Although the student didn’t say it outright, everyone present, including Julia, understood the implication clearly.
Realizing this, Professor Mark was momentarily stunned and visibly disappointed.
Just moments ago, he had truly believed that Maggie was a rare, all–round AI genius. Now, not so much-
Even Franklin hesitated slightly.
Seeing their reactions, Julia’s lips curled into a faint smile.
So what Maggie said earlier was actually an integration of Johnny and Nolan’s technical analysis. No wonder Professors Liam and Ma had mistakenly thought she was some kind of AI prodigy.
As for Franklin, although he hadn’t openly praised her like the other professors, he had been listening closely when Maggie talked about recent developments in the field. He must have been just as impressed at the time.
And now, judging by his reaction, he too must have realized that Maggie’s brilliance was merely borrowed light

But Professor Liam knew that Maggie was also a student of Nolan.
He had discussed technical matters with her before, and he was also aware that Cole, the famed programming framework, had been developed under her leadership.
So he was certain of her strength in the field.
Of course, if everything she presented earlier had truly been her independent research, it would make her appear too exceptional to be real.
But considering that she was Nolan’s student, that level of achievement–even in a short amount of time–wasn’t impossible.
That’s why Professor Liam genuinely believed the ideas Maggie had shared were the results of her own research.
Unfortunately, much of it involved confidential material. He couldn’t openly explain it.
So even though he knew Franklin and the others were misunderstanding Maggie, he could only stay silent and watch, unable to defend her.
As for what Professor Mark and Franklin were thinking, Maggie had no idea.
After leaving Wilson Group, she went straight back to Cole.
At lunch, she received a message from Sherry, who sincerely congratulated her:
“Maggie, I didn’t expect you to be doing so well after leaving the company. Congrats!”
Sherry still had no clue what kind of collaboration Maggie had been discussing with Wilson Group, but the fact that she could now approach Wilson as a partner made it clear she held a significant position.
Maggie replied:
“Thank you. It seems like things are going well for you at Wilson Group too. Congrats to you as well.”
Then she added:
“By the way, your coffee was really good today. Thanks for that.”
Seeing the reply, Sherry was delighted but a little shy:

“But I still think your coffee tastes better. No matter how I try to follow your method exactly, Mr. Wilson always says mine isn’t as good. I even took lessons from a barista friendust to keep my job. Only recently did I finally manage to get it right.”
After chatting for a bit longer, they ended the conversation.
That afternoon, Johnny returned from his business trip.
And that same afternoon, their lawyer informed them that Julia had already paid back 200 million dollars as part of Wilson Tech’s breach of contract settlement with Cole. Another 100 million or so would be repaid later.
Johnny scoffed,
“Isn’t Franklin always generous with Julia? He buys her property on a whim, gifts her a company without blinking, After they ended the deal with us, he immediately helped her land a new partnership with Ingle. Our total compensation was just over 300 million, and yet they’ve taken this long and still haven’t paid it off. You don’t think they’re doing this on purpose?”
“Probably not,” Maggie guessed.
“I think the Brown family didn’t want to rely on Franklin again. They’re planning to cover the cost themselves.
That did seem plausible.
Johnny clicked his tongue.
“Given the Brown family’s financial situation, it wouldn’t be easy to pull together that much money in a short time while keeping their operations running. Still, for Julia to insist on paying us back personally… those two really do care about each other.”
Maggie agreed.
But she had already understood that very clearly-
Back when Julia was willing to risk her life to take a knife for Franklin, and when Franklin, in return, had been determined to divorce her for her own good.
