Chapter 317
When she noticed it was only Maggie and Nolan, with no sign of Johnny, she didn’t think too much of it. She stepped out and walked toward Nolan. “Mr. Nolan.”
Nolan gave her a cold nod, then looked away and continued talking to Maggie. “Let’s go.”
As they walked, he resumed the topic they’d been discussing earlier.
A few days ago, Maggie had been in Franklin’s office discussing recent developments in AI with Professors Mark and Liam. Though some felt she was merely echoing others‘ opinions, they still praised her insights.
Since then, she couldn’t help but keep tabs on the latest trends in the field.
So, she could tell Nolan was now talking about recent breakthroughs in AI – things like brain–computer interfaces and edge AI predictions.
Seeing that Nolan had brushed her off and kept his focus on Maggie, Julia didn’t say anything else. She simply followed them from two meters behind as they entered the restaurant.
At the front desk, the hostess greeted them. “Hello, how many in your party? Did you reserve a private room?”
Maggie said, “Two. I called earlier. Reservation is under Miller.”
The hostess checked, then smiled. “Yes, we have your booking. This way, please.”
Maggie nodded and followed the server with Nolan.
Hearing that, Julia froze.
Two people?
So Johnny wasn’t coming?
Did this mean Maggie now had enough clout to meet Nolan one–on–one?
Nolan was a top figure in the field. Word had it he wasn’t fond of mentoring others and rarely discussed professional matters unless he respected someone’s knowledge.
Even when approached directly, he might not entertain the request.
His personality was arrogant and standoffish – someone with his temperament should have attracted plenty of criticism.
But his expertise was undeniable, and his contributions to the nation were real and substantial.

So, even if his demeanor didn’t match his position, no one dared say anything.
And just now, he was clearly engaging Maggie in technical discussion.
So this meant… Nolan genuinely thought highly of her?
Otherwise, why would he agree to a private dinner and a professional exchange?
Especially when he was notoriously difficult to book even lose acquaintances rarely got time with him.
But Maggie?
She had gotten him to come out like this?
Watching their retreating figures, Julia’s red lips pressed into a thin line.
On Thursday evening, Maggie attended a dinner party with Johnny, who had just returned from a business trip. –
They had just arrived when she spotted Julia and Sophia.
Clearly, they saw her too.
Sophia scowled at the sight of her and muttered to Julia, “Why is she everywhere?”
Maggie paid them no attention. After chatting briefly with the host of the banquet alongside Johnny, she noticed Glen walking over.
He had specially arranged for an invitation upon learning that Maggie would be attending.
That night, Maggie wore a simple, form–fitting black gown. Her long, straight black hair flowed freely, giving her an air of elegance and mystery. She looked stunning and impossible to ignore.
It seemed like every time he saw her at a banquet, she managed to take his breath away all over again.
He had attended the last two events as well, so Maggie wasn’t surprised to see him. “You’re here too?” she asked.
Glen quickly hid the amazement in his eyes and nodded. “Yeah.”
It was rumored that Dane Turner would also be attending that evening.
Turner was a close friend of Smith’s, and the two shared similar levels of fame and contribution to the AI field.
Julia had met Turner twice while pursuing her doctorate. Although they weren’t close, they were at least acquainted.
Upon learning Turner was here, Julia approached him and greeted, “Mr. Turner, it’s been a long time.”
Turner gave a slight nod.

Seeing that he remembered her, Julia smiled and was about to continue speaking, but Turner clearly had no interest. Before she could say more, he turned to his assistant and asked, “Are Miller and Gray here yet?”
