On Monday, Maggie went to work as usual.
Busy as ever, she continued shuttling between Jamison Group and Cole.
By Tuesday evening, as she rode the elevator down after work, she glanced at the date on her phone and lowered her gaze.
After a long day, Johnny was visibly exhausted as well.
Suddenly, as if a thought struck him, he asked,
“Tomorrow should be the final day, right?”
Maggie placed her phone back in her bag and replied,
“Yes.”
She and Franklin had dragged things out for so many years, and now it was finally coming to an end.
Johnny idn’t know whether to feel happy for her–or quietly heartbroken.
As much as he resented Franklin deep down, he couldn’t ignore the fact that Maggie had loved him for years.
“And now, this was how it ended.
Still–no matter how hard something is, it always passes eventually.
Only after the divorce was official could Maggie truly begin again.
With that in mind, he gently patted her on the shoulder, saying nothing more.
The next morning, Maggie went for a run, had breakfast, and returned to the office, ready to begin the day–when her phone suddenly rang.
It was a call from Franklin.
They had agreed that as soon as the cooling–off period ended they would go together to finalize the divorce paperwork.
That day was supposed to be tomorrow.
Chapter 355
So Franklin calling her now was no surprise.
She picked up. “Hello?”
Before he could speak, Maggie got straight to the point:
“I’ll be there tomorrow morning at nine sharp-”
But Franklin interrupted,
“I’m still abroad on business.”
Maggie paused, silent.
Before she could respond, Franklin added,
“I probably won’t be able to make it back for a few more days. We may have to delay the registration.”
Her brows knit together, and she said nothing.
Sensing her dissatisfaction, he apologized:
“I’m sorry, This time it’s my fault.”
Maggie took a deep breath.
After a couple of seconds, she finally said,
“Understood.”
Before he could say anything else, she ended the call.
She rubbed her temples, barely having a moment to collect herself before the phone rang again.
This time, it wasn’t Franklin–it was Jimmy.
Her frown deepened.
She knew she’d likely be seeing more
of him in the future, especially at the tech base.
They wouldn’t exactly run into each other daily, but they’d definitely cross paths now and then.
She had a good impression of Jimmy, but at the moment… she really wasn’t in the right mindset.
If she picked up, she’d be giving him hope.
But if she didn’t–it felt rude.

After hesitating for a while, she finally answered.
“Hello?”
Jimmy’s voice was gentle and easy on the ears:
“Busy?”
Maggie replied, “Kind of.”
He seemed to sense the trouble in her voice and chuckled.
“I’m not on break yet. Just happened to have a moment today and thought I’d call. Even if my call troubles you a little… I’m afraid I won’t stop.”
Maggie: “…”
Before she could respond, he asked,
“How’ve you been? Still working a lot?”
“Yes. Very busy.”
“And the divorce?”
Though he cared about how she was doing, he was also clearly concerned with one other thing:
“Forgive me if it’s inappropriate, but I wanted to ask… Tomorrow was supposed to be the day you officially file, right?”
Jimmy didn’t know the full story behind her marriage,
But from what he’d gathered, it seemed the man had been more eager to separate-
and Maggie had been quietly cooperative.
So, in his heart, he had already assumed that the divorce was just a formality, not subject to change.
With that in mind, he continued before she could reply,
“I’ll be swamped for a few more days. Once I’m free-”
Before he could finish, Maggie cut in calmly,
“It was supposed to be tomorrow, yes. But it’s been delayed.”
Jimmy’s smile faltered slightly.
Chapter 355
After a moment’s pause, he asked,
“Mind if I ask why? Was it on your end, or…?”
“He’s abroad. Won’t make it back in time.”
“So once he returns, you two will go finalize it right away?”
Maggie: “…Yes.”
Good.
That’s what he hoped.
In fact, he was hoping that by the time he had his next break, the divorce would already be finalized.
But he didn’t say that out loud.
Just then, Maggie spoke again:
“Mr. Hall, the reason I picked up your call today was actually because I wanted to say-”
He interrupted gently,
“I know. You picked up not because you feel anything for me but because it felt too rude not to. And now you want to take the opportunity to make that clear again. I know.”
Maggie: “You-”
“I know,” he repeated, smiling.
Her frankness, her honesty–he found them endearing.
“But my stance won’t change,” he said warmly.
“I’m a little short on time today. Once I’m done with work, I’ll ask you to dinner. Until next time.”
With that, he hung up–before she could say another word.
