After exchanging a few polite words, she found an excuse to slip away.
Back at the Green and Brown residences, many had been very interested in the rare diamond up for auction that night.
Unfortunately, with only one invitation available, none of them could attend.

But after a moment, she lowered her head and silently stared into the teacup in her hands.
