Chapter 17
The powerful inertia almost dragged me down with it, but it was John who grabbed my
hand.
“Zoe! Are you okay?!”
k.. I’m fine!”
I struggled to hold onto Olivia, who was hanging in mid–air, and begged,
“Hold on to me! Please don’t let go!!”
Fear overwhelmed me, and teardrops, as big as beans, rolled down my face, splashing onto
hers.
But in despair, she kicked her legs and shouted,
“Let go of me! Zoe! Don’t pretend to be the good person! I can’t live as long as John still loves
you!”
Hearing her voice, John rushed to help me pull her up.
His voice trembled, “Olivia, don’t be stupid, okay? Climb up!”
In the face of death, we were all terrified.
Below us, a crowd had gathered.
A few quick–thinking people rushed to the roof, and together we managed to pull Olivia to safety.
I had dislocated my shoulder and was taken to the hospital.
John wanted to accompany me, but I refused.
“Take care of your girlfriend. I have people to look after me,”
A man from the crowd rushed toward me.

Chapter 17
Alex, as if out of his mind, pushed through the crowd and saw me lying on the ground.
He dashed over, embraced me, his body shaking, and sobbed as he mumbled,
“Zoe! Thank God, you scared me to death!”
I wrapped my uninjured arm around him. “It’s okay, sweetie, I’m fine!”
John watched us, his eyes eventually dimming…
He picked up Olivia and walked away, his steps heavy.
