Chapter 14
Fenny froze for a moment. “What?”
I smiled. “You must know that Ponto Spencer has been so anxious lately because of his
financing, right?”
enny nodded. “Of course I know. What do you think, I’m just like you, only thinking about money and not caring about him?”
“The one financing Ponto Spencer is the richest man in the city–Mr. Brown. And the reason
he’s willing to invest in him is because I’m the daughter of the Brown family…”
Before I could finish my sentence, Fenny cut me off. “Your last name is Miller. What do you
mean, you’re related to the Brown family? You think I’m stupid? Don’t tell me you’re trying
to play the ‘godfather‘ card. That doesn’t make you family.”
I wasn’t angry. “I share the same last name as my grandmother. Our family’s information
isn’t hard to find online. Y
can check for yourself.”
Fenny quickly took out her phone and started searching. Soon enough, she found my
information, her face going from disbelief to shock.
I continued, “I married Ponto Spencer because he was climbing high, but he’s the one who
took me for granted. He thinks of himself as a ‘son–in–law.‘ Now that he wants to get back on
top, he’s willing to throw me aside. The worship and love you give him are things I’ll never be able to provide.”
Fenny still didn’t believe me, and as I watched her face crumble, I couldn’t help but find it
amusing.
“I’m sure you came here because Ponto sent you. If I were just a gold–digger, someone
clinging to him, he wouldn’t have beaten you and sent you to apologize.”
Fenny murmured, “I thought… I thought you had some blackmail on Ponto Spencer, and you were using it to threaten him, causing him to lose his financing. That’s why he sent me to apologize. But that’s not it, is it? You’re just lying to me, right?”
