Vincent looked up, his lips trembling, “…”
Kaylee cut him off sharply.
“In that moment, when I needed someone to rely on, I turned to you. And what did you do? Nou stabbed me straight in the heart.”
“That was when I told myself; everything between us is over.”
Her voice wavered slightly as the memory of her despair flashed through her mind, her eyes tinged with red,
Back then, when she was utterly alone, it was only the arrival of the police–along with her biological parents–that gave her hope.
Without them, she couldn’t imagine how she would have coped on her own.
Vincent’s face froze in regret. “I’m sorry. It was my fault. I’ll spend my whole life making it
up to you.”
“Please, let me make amends for the rest of my life.”
Kaylee’s lips curled into a cold smile.
“A lifetime? Do you think I still care about your so–called lifetime?”
“You always blame Alina, thinking that’s why I won’t forgive you. But the truth is, isn’t everything rooted in your inability to control your own heart?”
“Flies don’t swarm to an intact egg. Your heart was already rotten.”
Vincent opened his mouth but couldn’t form a response. He could only stare at her in silence, the weight of her words pinning him down.
Kaylee stood
up,
her gaze icy.
“If you truly loved me, you wouldn’t have the audacity to bother me again.”

“First, because of what you did to my adoptive pereuns and your entanglement with ina
you’ve already lost the right to approach me Second, goes or positions now, porte clearly overreaching–our worlds no longer align”
“From now on, let’s have nothing to do with each other”
With that, she turned and walked away without hesitation
“Kaylee!” Vincent called after her, taking a step forward.
Kaylee spun around abruptly.
“Do you still have something to explain?”
Vincent froze, unable to find the words.
Everything she had said was undeniable. What explanation could he offer?
Anything he tried to say would only sound hollow and futile.
Without another glance, Kaylee turned and left.
Vincent stood motionless in the middle of the mall, lost and overwhelmed.
He lingered for over an hour, aimlessly wandering the streets of Italy afterward, his heart- feeling like it was missing a piece.
He had well and truly lost the person he loved most.
Meanwhile, Kaylee left feeling liberated and at ease.
The next day, she boarded a plane to Switzerland with her family, brimming with joy
The family bustled happily as they boarded. Margot, discontent with airplane food, had packed a variety of local delicacies to bring along.
Arthur tried to convince her to bring less.
“Mom, don’t overdo it.”
But Margot brushed him off.
“These are all Kaylee’s favorite dishes. I’m worried the food there won’t taste the same as it does here, and she might not like it.”
She firmly placed the food in the plane’s storage, swatting Arthur’s hand away.
As Kaylee prepared to board, she received a message from Steven:
didn’t mean to embarrass you at the family dinner. I simply have no interest in starting a family right now. Wishing you a safe journey to Switzerland.”
Kaylee was a litle surprised but quickly replied:
“Thank you.”
She hadn’t taken that incident to heart and, in fact, appreciated Steven’s help in the days
that followed,
“Kaylee, time to board!” Margot called from the airplane door.
“Coming!” Kaylee replied with a smile, switching off her phone and following her family onto the plane.
With a low rumble, the plane took off, and the ground below shrank rapidly. The aircraft climbed higher, slicing through the clouds as it soared toward Switzerland.
Kaylee gazed out the window, her thoughts wandering.
In just two short months, she had gone through so much.
But she was certain that her future would only get better.
Like the plane breaking through the clouds, her life was heading upward–toward new
heights.
