The next day, Austin left early for the office, and I received a new commission. After tidying up in my room, I went to pick out an outfit, but I couldn’t find the white dress I usually
don’t wear.
I thought maybe I had misplaced it, so I just picked out another outfit and left.
When I arrived, I was surprised to find that the client was my university classmate, Sophie
Carter.
She looked at me in astonishment.
“Angela, it’s you! You’ve really become so beautiful!”
Sophie was my roommate in college. Back then, she was dating the class monitor from the class next door, and their relationship was the talk of our entire year–not just because they
were top students, but also because they were the perfect couple. Sophie was the campus
beauty.
Not only was she stunningly beautiful, but her personality was also kind.
Her love story with the class monitor was something we all admired, and we all thought they would marry after graduation. But now, here she was, coming to me.
Sophie circled around me, scrutinizing me carefully, before finally confirming.
“It really is you. When people introduced you to me earlier, I thought it was just a
coincidence with the same name. I never expected you to have changed so much after all
these years.”
But when I looked at her, I didn’t feel happy at all. Sophie looked pale, with dark circles
under her eyes, and her hair was tied into a low ponytail.
She had clearly lost a lot of hair. Her figure was no longer curvy; instead, she looked thin and frail. She was dressed in a loose white T–shirt and faded jeans–she no longer looked like the beautiful campus queen she once was.

“It’s been so long, Sophie. Let’s sit and chat.”
We found a bench in the park, and I bought two cups of coffee, handing one to her.
“It’s been so long since I’ve had one of these. You should try it.”
But she hesitated and then refused. “No, you drink it.”
“Weren’t you always the one who loved drinking this? What happened, have you changed
our taste?”
I teased her, but she looked troubled, her face drawn.
“He doesn’t like it when I drink it. He says I’m getting too fat.”

“What? You’ve lost so much weight. How could you be fat? Anyway, just tell me why you
came to find me.”
Sophie hesitated for a moment before speaking.
“Recently, Thomas has been coming home late every day. Every time he comes back, he smells of perfume.
I asked him about it, and he said it’s from social events, but I didn’t believe him. We ended up arguing, and he got so angry that he left the house for several days and hasn’t come back yet. I want to ask you to go to his company and check on him.”
“That’s easy. Any other requests?”
“If possible, could you get closer to him and see if he’s really cheating?”
I felt sorry for Sophie as I looked at her.
“Actually, you already have an answer, don’t you?”
“Angela, you know… I’m three months pregnant. Thomas doesn’t know. I wanted to
surprise him. I didn’t want to believe it until the very last moment…”
She choked up, tears welling in her eyes.

I sighed, “I’ll help you, but I hope you can take care of yourself and live well afterward
Sophie gratefully paid the deposit, and the company address she gave me happened to be one that had recently partnered with Austin’s company. After receiving the money, I called Austin to explain the situation, then headed to the location.
When I arrived at the company, I saw Thomas Turner laughing and talking with a woman as they entered the building. About ten minutes later, I took the elevator upstairs.
e assistant led me to the manager’s office. When the door opened, I saw Thomas standing very close to the woman. She was adjusting his collar, and they quickly pulled apart when they noticed the door opening,
“Mr. Turner, this is Ms. Clark from Morris Company.”
“Got it. You can go now.”
After the assistant left, Thomas sent the woman away and began discussing business with
me privately.
“How should I address you?”
“Clark.”
“Okay, Ms. Clark, here’s our contract. Please have a look.”
I quickly skimmed through the contract, but during this time, the woman kept coming in
and out of the office for various reasons. Whether it was to check on some documents or to
bring him a coffee.
I deliberately delayed things in the office. The woman, having no excuse to come in anymore, became increasingly anxious, glancing inside through the glass door.
Thomas clearly noticed this and frowned slightly. I positioned myself to block his line of sight.
“Mr. Turner, are you that concerned about the person at the door while we’re discussing business?”
Seeing that I was a bit upset, Thomas quickly put on a smile.

“I’m so sorry, Ms. Clark. My new secretary doesn’t quite understand the rules yet. Don’t
mind her, let’s continue.”
The secretary, now ignored by Thomas, became even angrier.
Finally, after dragging out enough time, I decided I didn’t want to stay any longer. I stood up, preparing to leave.
“Mr. Turner, your collar is crooked.”
I walked over to adjust his collar, my lips brushing against his ear. Thomas froze, a flush
spreading across his face. I knew, the hook was set.
From the secretary’s perspective, our interaction looked very ambiguous. She didn’t hesitate
and rushed into the office.
“What are you two doing?”
I turned to leave, casually saying, “Mr. Turner, your secretary really doesn’t know the rules.”
After I left the office, the secretary immediately stuck to Thomas, who embraced her and affectionately petted her head.
I secretly took a picture of the scene, preparing for the next steps. When I got home, I pulled
out my phone and sent a message.
“Mr. Turner, are you free this weekend? I have a few more details to confirm with you.”
A message arrived soon after.
“Sure, you set the location.”
I sent the photos and chat history to Sophie.
“Your man doesn’t need me to do anything, he’s already hooked. And it seems like his
relationship with that secretary isn’t ordinary. Do you still want to continue?”
Sophie had already mentally prepared herself, but seeing the evidence right before her made her hands tremble, and she could feel a dull pain in her abdomen.

“Thanks for your hard work.”
I picked a restaurant and sent the details to Thomas. At that moment, Sophie’s phone
received a new message.
“I won’t be coming home this weekend. I need to go to a meeting for the contract. If you need more money, just let me know.”
Sophie looked at the message, feeling a cold emptiness in her chest.
“Does signing a contract really require an overnight absence?”
“The company still has some matters. Can you stop making trouble?”
“Okay, I understand.”
After sending the message, Sophie turned off her phone completely. She didn’t know why the person she had been living with became so unfamiliar. Looking at the photos of him
being intimate with another woman, her heart ached.
On the weekend, I dressed up carefully and went to the meeting location. However, when I
arrived, not only was Thomas there, but his secretary was standing next to him as well.
