Chapter 8
“Who is this?”
I asked, confused.
Before Austin could speak, the woman answered first, “Hello, I’m Mr. Walker’s recent
artner. My name is Daniela Murphy.”
I had been focused on eating earlier, but now I looked up at the woman in front of me. As soon as I saw her face, I froze for a moment.
“Hello, Austin. How come I’ve never heard you mention this partner of yours?”
I fixed my gaze on Austin, and he quickly averted his eyes. From the brief expression on his face, I sensed something was off. And it was no coincidence that this Miss Daniela was actually the target of my commission.
The situation seemed more complicated than I originally thought, but I didn’t intend to alarm them just yet.
Daniela naturally sat next to Austin. The way they were dressed today made them look more like a couple than I did.
“Ms. Walker seems to be very familiar with my husband.”
“Not bad. We’re friends outside of work too. Didn’t you know, Ms. Clark?”
“You even know my last name is Clark? Seems like Austin has mentioned me to you a lot.”
Austin sensed the atmosphere was becoming awkward and quickly tried to smooth things
over.
“I’ve only mentioned that Angela is my fiancée. I didn’t think you’d remember it.”
“Mr. Walker, you know how my memory is.”
The two of them chatted pleasantly, and I couldn’t take it any longer. I interrupted, “Since Ms. Walker and Austin are such good friends, you must come to our wedding in two

months.”
Daniela, who had been smiling just moments ago, suddenly froze. The smile faltered, and her expression stiffened,
“Angela, that’s still a long way off.”
“Is it too early for you?”
ook the last bite of my steak. Even though the woman in front of me didn’t seem friendly, it was more important to finish eating before dealing with anything else.
“I didn’t mean it like that…”
I took a tissue to wipe the corner of my mouth.
“Alright, alright, I know you didn’t mean it that way. I’m full now. Shall we head back?”
“Ms. Clark certainly has a good appetite. Mr. Walker, have you eaten enough too?”
Ah, so this was a subtle jab at how much I was eating, implying I hadn’t been paying attention to Austin.
“It’s fine. I’ve eaten enough too. Ms. Walker, we’re heading out now. You should head back as well.”
Daniela didn’t say anything else but just watched us leave, her gaze unreadable.
When we got home, Austin went to the bathroom several times. When I asked him what was wrong, he just said he had an upset stomach.
I knew his little tricks couldn’t escape my eyes, but I wanted to see what kind of drama Austin was going to put on next.
The next day, as planned, we went to the amusement park.
The relaxed atmosphere helped me push aside the worries that had been bothering me. Austin took care of me as usual, but the more attentive he was, the more I felt something
was off.

Austin and I had known each other for ten years.
Over time, his attitude toward me had been lukewarm, which I had always accepted because I knew that was his nature.
But recently, his attitude had changed, and it felt more like when we first started dating. At first, I thought it was because the wedding was approaching, and he was feeling more responsible toward me.
ut now with Daniela appearing, things didn’t seem so simple anymore.
That night, while Austin was asleep, I finally decided to check his phone, something I hadn’t done in a long time. To my surprise, the phone wallpaper that used to be a picture of me had been changed back to a photo of a plush kitten.
I began to think that maybe my fiancé had fallen out of love with me.
I didn’t wake him up, but opened his social media app and clicked into his chat with Daniela. Aside from a few work–related messages, there was nothing else. The most recent message was from months ago.
He was hiding things well. I then opened his shopping app and touched the necklace around my neck, growing increasingly suspicious. I checked his purchase history, and finally found the necklace.
I thought I had misunderstood him, but before I could relax, I saw that the order had been placed five months ago.
The necklace wasn’t a pre–sale item, which meant it had been bought long before, and he had kept it at home. I never saw the packaging for the necklace, and all the evidence pointed to one thing–that this necklace wasn’t a gift for me.
I felt as if I had fallen into an ice pit. The necklace didn’t fit me properly, and the more I thought about it, the more suspicious I became.
After syncing the messages to my tablet and turning off the screen, I took off the necklace and turned to look at the person sleeping beside me. Austin, after ten years, would you betray me like my other targets?
“Angela, hurry up and eat, it’ll melt soon.”

Chapter 8
Austin’s voice pulled me back to reality. I looked at the ice cream in his hand but felt no appetite.
At that moment, my tablet in my bag vibrated. I looked at Austin, and sure enough, he frowned slightly as he glanced at his phone in his pocket.
I quickly found an excuse.
“Austin, sit here for a moment. My stomach hurts, I need to go to the bathroom.”
“Okay, go ahead.”
