Chapter 12
Seeing the situation was going awry, Zuri quickly pulled Daniela, who was in Austin’s arms, and pressed a dagger she had hidden in her pocket to her neck.
“Austin, do you dare play with me?”
Austin was obviously unaware of what was going on.
Looking at his new lover being threatened, he hurriedly said, “If I had wanted to call the police, why would I have waited until now? I’ve never even touched my phone! Let go of
her.”
“Step back!”
Zuri, still uncertain, increased the pressure in her hand when there was no way out. The
sharp dagger had already cut into Daniela’s neck, blood starting to seep out.
Daniela, scared, turned pale, her body trembling uncontrollably.
“Austin, save me…”
Just as the two sides were locked in a standoff, the hotel door was suddenly kicked open.
“Don’t move! Police!”
A circle of police officers surrounded the room, and the one leading them was the man I had spoken to earlier, “Daniela’s husband.”
He quickly subdued the three of them and then helped me up from the floor.
A doctor was called to dress my wounds.
When I opened my eyes again, I was in the hospital, with “Daniela’s husband” sitting at the
bedside. A sharp headache hit me.
“Rest well, don’t move too much.”
“You’re not…”

“Sorry, Ms. Walker, Let me introduce myself properly, My name is Alex Wood, and to a police officer.”
I was shocked. No wonder when I mentioned Daniela’s marriage earlier, she acted so unusually.
“So you’re not really Daniela’s husband?”
“Correct. I lied to you, but there was a reason.
We found out that there was a gang in the country trafficking people, smuggling them abroad, and recently, the person in contact with them was your fiancé, Austin. In order not to tip them off, we had no choice but to take this approach.
When you sent me your location, I sent you a lot of messages, but you didn’t reply. I thought you wouldn’t go there alone, so I immediately called for backup. Luckily, we made it in time… I’m sorry your safety was threatened.”
“There’s something I want to clarify. How long have they been around me?”
“About half a year.”
I thought back carefully, and indeed, the neighbor Reed had moved in about six months
ago.
Lopened my phone and saw that the recording had stopped.
I exited the app and entered my social media, where countless messages from Alex had popped up.
I had been too focused on catching them in the act and had forgotten to check my
messages.
“One more thing.”
“Go ahead.”
“Alex, how did you find me?”
Alex smiled.

“Ms. Clark, do you remember Sophie?”
“You know Sophie?”
“She’s my high school classmate. We’re on good terms. By chance, she told me about you,
and that’s when I came up with this plan to draw them out.”
“I see.”
shrugged nonchalantly.
“Alright, I don’t want to think about it anymore. Where are they now?”
“They’re probably still in the interrogation room.”
“I need to talk to Austin.”
“Ms. Clark, you should rest a bit more first.”
“No, I’m just going home to get something.”
Seeing that I was determined, Alex didn’t stop me. Instead, he stood up and accompanied me. After I grabbed the things from home, we went to the interrogation room together.
Austin was sitting there with his head down, his eyes bloodshot. When he saw me, it was like he had grabbed a lifeline.
“Angela, help me, I won’t contact Daniela again. I’ll make it up to you for Valentine’s Day… please, let’s go back…”
“Austin, do you still think I don’t know anything? Ten years… Is this how you’ve treated me? You’re going to sell me off to Myanmar and run away with Daniela?”
“No… No…”
Seeing that he was still in denial, I pulled out the contract I had prepared earlier and threw
it in front of him.
“Open your eyes and take a good look at what this is!”

Austin took the contract with his handcuffed hands. When he saw the bold text, his eyes widened in shock.
“What…?”
“Austin, I’ve long intended to transfer the shares to you as our wedding gift, but you couldn’t wait. You made vows to someone you’ve just met, abandoned me, and now I won’t forgive you anymore.”
you want this?”
Austin nodded. I smirked slightly.
“Then give it to me.”
He obediently did as I asked, and I took the contract from him, immediately tearing it into pieces in front of him.
“Don’t!”
“Angela… I was wrong, I was wrong… Please forgive me…”
“Austin, you’re really pathetic now. Oh, and one more thing, you treasure your Daniela so much, I’ll show you something.”
“What are you doing? Don’t hurt her.”
“Tsk, tsk, tsk. One second, you’re begging me to forgive you, and the next second, you’re pleading for her? Don’t worry, I won’t harm her.”
I pulled out a stack of photos from my bag. Austin looked at them one by one, his face growing darker and darker. These photos showed Daniela going in and out of hotels with
different men, looking very intimate.
Looks like my surveillance over the past few months had paid off.
“You bitch!”
Austin threw the photos on the floor, his eyes red. Perhaps at this moment, he felt a fleeting moment of regret, but it didn’t matter anymore because I didn’t care.

“I’m leaving. I hope you and your little lover can continue being so in love in prison.
Austin suddenly stood up and grabbed my sleeve.
“Angela, I was wrong. Please come back to me…
Alex, observing from the side, immediately stepped forward to stop him.
“Let go of her.”
“Don’t touch me. I think you’re disgusting.”
I yanked my arm free from his grip, and no matter how much he screamed, I didn’t look back. Walking out of the police station, I felt an unprecedented sense of relief.
“Ms. Clark, don’t be too sad. Austin has done more than just this. You don’t need to feel bad
over such a scumbag.”
“Oh? What else has he done?”
“Prostitution, gambling.”
I sneered and said, “I see. Thanks, Alex.”
He nodded. “Take care.”
I went back to the hospital to get checked, and apart from a mild concussion, everything else seemed fine. I pulled out my phone and opened Sophie’s contact.
“Do you want to go on a trip?”
She replied almost immediately.
“Where to?”
“Iceland.”
“Sounds great. Hold on, I’ll check for flights.”
“Okay.”

Sophie didn’t ask why I wanted to travel. She just immediately checked for tickets, just like when we were in school–when I was with her, we could leave at a moment’s notice.
At that moment, I felt a little dazed, almost as if I was seeing the old version of us again.
