Love Story6–Chapter 1
I own several luxury cars, all purchased as gifts for myself under various pretexts before our marriage.
After we got married, my husband, Ethan Yates, didn’t buy any more cars; he’d just ask me for the keys when needed.
But for this Porsche, I had specifically told him I needed it for some social events this week.
I even had it thoroughly cleaned beforehand.
Who would’ve thought he’d take it out and get it dirty again?
Frustration simmered in my chest as I frowned, staring at the sticky marks on the windows.
The more I thought about it, the less sense it made.
I’d met all of his buddies before–classic engineering types, each nerdier than the last.
At their age, they were either bald or wearing wigs; dyeing their hair blonde was out of the
question.
And this length? I’d believe they were idols if someone told me so.
Could Ethan be having an affair?
The
thought surfaced and was immediately dismissed.
He’s the head of pediatrics at a private hospital, with a schedule packed with appointments
can barely keep up with.

Work, meals, sleep–it’s all diagnosing and treating patients.
As he always says, “Time is life. Wasting a single minute means one more hopeless patient.”
Plus, our daughter is also staying at the same hospital.
I visit her regularly, often bringing supplies. Whenever I go, he’s either working or

watching cartoons with her.
How could such a responsible husband have issues with his personal life?
But staring at the strands of golden curls on the cloth, I couldn’t suppress my suspicion.
I turned on the car’s dashcam.
The recordings from the past few days were completely blank–deleted.
The phrase “a guilty conscience” echoed in my mind.
I recalled the camcorder I’d used during the last exhibition. I had left it in the car, probably
still on.
I picked it up, only to find the battery dead.
After plugging it in to charge, I checked the previous recordings.
Thankfully, I hadn’t turned it off after use, and the footage was intact.
I fast–forwarded to the day Ethan drove the car, and soon, two figures appeared on the
screen.
Ethan and an unfamiliar man.
Relief washed over me as I felt a bit silly for overthinking.
Tossing the camcorder aside, I was about to start the car when Ethan’s voice came through.
“We doctors don’t know much about law, so I thought I’d ask you during this gathering. I remember your divorce case dragged on for quite a while.”
“Hypothetically–just hypothetically–if the wife hasn’t done anything wrong, is there any
way to make her leave with nothing after a divorce?”
“I’m just asking casually; don’t overthink it. A friend of mine’s having marital issues lately.”
The man in the passenger seat chuckled.

“Classic line–‘asking for a friend‘? Dude, you’re acting suspicious.”
“Come on, we’re close. Just be straight with me. You cheated, want a divorce, but don’t want to lose money, right?”
“But if I remember correctly, weren’t you the one who chased after Lila Stewart in the first
place? And now you’re done with her?”
‘And this car–wasn’t it her purchase too? With conditions like hers, love isn’t always a
ecessity, you know what I mean.”
Encouraged by the man’s candor, Ethan straightened up in his seat.
“You don’t understand. At first, I thought about enduring it. After all, she’s invested a lot in the hospital where I work. But feelings can’t be forced. You’ve been divorced; you should
understand.”
Ethan stared intently at the car emblem on the steering wheel, his tone tinged with
resentment.
“She’s rich, sure, but money can’t buy love.”
“I’m tired of her domineering attitude, bossing me around every day. I feel like I’m not her husband–I’m just her dog!”
My foot froze mid–step on the gas pedal.
His voice grew more animated.
“Do you get it? I’m a man! A man!”
“Thank God, I met someone else. She’s reignited my passion, made me feel alive again–truly alive.”
“Her daughter is sick too, the same illness as mine, but she’s strapped for cash.”
“And Lila has no shortage of money, so I thought…”
The other man immediately caught on.
