“Yorick, sweetheart, can you please disengage from Cyra so we can finish our conversation. Then the two of you can continue,” my mother’s voice says from somewhere behind me.
I’ve gotten totally lost in kissing my mate. I forgot we were still in the pack hospital.
I reluctantly pull away from my mate, who is quickly turning a bright shade of pink.
“Sorry, Luna,” she murmurs.
“Never apologize for loving your mate, especially when that mate is my son. I am well aware of the ‘passion‘ of the Hill men,” mom says, making me chuckle and Cyra blush an even deeper shade of pink.
“I have your results. First, your hormone levels are back to normal, meaning you definitely were given a placebo. I’m guessing the hormones. from your previous implant lasted just long enough for me to confirm your negative pregnancy test,” she says.
I feel the same wave of disappointment in Cyra that I’m feeling. I was excited to start a family with my mate, even if it would be difficult for the next year.
“Now, your test result was negative, but the two of you have only recently completed your mate bond and that is what we need to discuss. I know Kennedy told you that I might not be willing to put you on birth control and she’s right. With your hormone levels normal and your recent marking and mating, it is very likely that you are now pregnant, just not far enough along for it to show on a test. If I understand the agreement you have with Warren, the two of you will be coming here every weekend, correct?”
“Yes,” I say.
She nods. “I’ll check you next weekend and if you’re still negative, we’ll go one more week. If at that time you still show a negative blood test, then I’ll put you on birth control if that’s what you want. For now, if you aren’t actively trying to get pregnant, you need to make sure you use condoms,” she says, looking at me with a question on her face.
“Yeah, I have them,” I say. “Dad made sure we all did.”
“Good. Of course, it’s up to the two of you if you want to use them, but I won’t feel completely comfortable putting you on birth control for two more weeks.”
“Okay, thanks Mom.”
“Of course. I’m going to walk back with you to the packhouse,” she says, as we walk out of the room.
“I need to let your father know that Kennedy and Dr. Walker found that none of the implants that came in that particular shipment had the hormones required to prevent pregnancy. I’ll need to contact the Council and you can expect an investigation. I’m not sure if they will contact one of you or your father since things are a little different in this pack right now. I’ve had Dr. Walker set aside the shipment that was tampered with, the results of Kennedy’s tests, and he’s also collecting the information on who ordered this shipment, when it was ordered, which company they ordered through, and which delivery company was used. The Council will want all of that information when they are to complete their investigation. I also asked Dr. Walker about the possibility of a nurse being involved, but he didn’t feel that was like feels that whoever did this was outside of the pack. But you should be aware that the Council will interview all medical professionals and anyone else who handled the shipment from the moment it entered the pack lands.”
“Thanks Mom,” I say as we walk into the packhouse.
“Did you talk to Quirin? He seemed very excited about the proposal he came up with for the two of you,” she asks, just as I hear my sister giggling and complaining to a growling Quirin who probably looks a lot like I did a few minutes ago when my mother interrupted my kiss with

I look at my mate and wink at her.
“He’s created a very generous offer for us, Luna. It’s just amazing what he’s done for us,” Cyra says as my mother watches Kennedy and Quirin with a happy smile on her face.
“He always was such a sweet and generous young man,” she murmurs.
Quirin pulls away from Kennedy suddenly, frowning at my mother who has no idea she just said that out loud. Of course, NO ONE other than my mother and Kennedy would ever say that Quirin is sweet.
“Luna, you’ve always had blinders on when it comes to me,” Quirin says, setting Kennedy back on her feet.
My mother walks over and cups his cheek. The soft look he gives her is reserved for a very select few in Quirin’s life, my mother, Kennedy, Luna Farrah, and Quirin’s pups. Even I don’t warrant that level of softness in him.
“Perhaps I’m one of the few that sees you clearly,” my mother says.
“I definitely agree with that,” Kennedy says, smiling up at her mate.
It’s obvious my mother’s praise makes Quirin uncomfortable, but she lifts her cheek to him so he can kiss it, then she goes to my father.
I watch my friends limping in behind Quirin.
“Well, at least he didn’t put you in the pack hospital,” I say, laughing at them.
Quirin grins at them, then turns to look at us. “We need to talk to your father and tell him what we’ve agreed to. Then we need to go to your new pack. They need an Alpha and Connor needs to get home. I would suggest having an Alpha ceremony immediately after we arrive there, he says, as my father walks up.
“So, you are taking over the new pack?” he asks us.
I can see that the pack members around us shifting, watching and listening to the interaction.
I look at Cyra who shrugs. “It’s apparently a done deal,” she says.
I nod and clap my hands. “Attention everyone! I know a lot has happened in the last twenty–four hours, but there is more to come. Some of you just overheard my father asking about Alpha Christer’s old pack. Earlier today, Cyra and I signed an alliance agreement with Alpha Quirin. He has generously gifted us the vacant land between this pack and Alpha Christer’s pack,” I say, stopping as the gasps and murmurs begin.
I hold up my hands for silence. “Alpha Quirin has also agreed that, as part of our repayment for the loan we used to help get Cyra out of the alliance bond that her father created with Alpha Stellan, we will be taking over Christer’s old pack. We will be working with them and you to figure out the best way to patrol our new pack lands. We will begin staking out the areas this weekend and starting patrols once that is complete. We will also need to have a gathering to incorporate the two packs into one. All of this is happening quickly, so I don’t have answers yet about how we will combine the two packs, but as we make those decisions, we will make sure all of you are aware of what’s happening. This is a good thing, it’s good for our pack and strengthens us overall. But it will take adjustment and patience from everyone. If you have any questions or concerns, please see myself, Cyra, or my father. We will be happy to discuss them with you.”
I can feel the shock, like a mini wave, through the pack link. The pack is so startled, they really don’t know what to say at th int.
“Cyra and I need to go address the other pack and officially take our place as their Alphas. We will be back this evening and we can begin planning a gathering in our new plot of land in between the two packs for everyone to start getting to know each other.”
I look at Cyra, seeing if she has anything to add.

“We told you things would be changing, but even we didn’t know that it would be changing this quickly. As Yorick said, this fer good thi Change can be difficult, but we will work through this together. We will be stronger, together. We will be unified, together
We look around, getting a feel for the pack’s response to our statements. Overall, it feels positive, just very surprised,
“She’s such a natural leader. She’ll make a lovely Alpha,” I hear my mother murmur.
I look over and see my father grinning as he wraps his arm around her shoulders and pulls her into a hug.
Once the pack goes back to what they were doing, my father looks at us.
“I’m not comfortable leaving Yara here unprotected. I don’t know this pack well enough, but I also know that she wants to start working in
the hospital here. Do you have any ideas?”
“Yo, Pipes!” Cyra calls out to Piper.
“Yeah?”
“Are you up for some guard duty today?”
“Who am I guarding?” she asks, walking over.
“My mother–in–law.”
“Ahh, the lovely Luna Yara. I’d love to,” she says, smiling at my mother.
“What are we, chopped liver?” Zach asks, walking over.
“I’d be thrilled if all four of you would look after my mate while we’re gone,” Dad says.
“I’m sure that’s not necessary,” Mom says.
“Don’t worry, Luna Murmur, we’ve got you,” Zach says.
“Luna Murmur?” Mom asks, frowning.
“Zach’s big on nicknames, Luna. Just ignore him,” Piper says.
“Yeah, we all do,” Chase says, grinning at my mother.
“I was talking out loud again?” she asks my father.
“Always, my love,” he says, grinning and kissing her lightly on the lips,
She sighs. “I’m going to the pack hospital. I have some things I need to do there.”
“We’re with you, Luna. See you later,” Landon says to us.
“Yeah, have fun taking over the world,” Zach says, grinning.
“You’re such an idiot,” Piper says as they walk off.
“I like your friends,” Quirin says. That’s high praise from him.
“Yeah, they’re pretty awesome.”
